Wondering if anybody had any problems with freezer and fridge full of food going to the EU. Also any problems arriving in Holland? Heading across in a weeks time.

Wondering if I should pack the fridge full?

I know there's past threads, wondering if anyone traveedl in past couple of weeks.

Thank you all

We went over to France two weeks ago and came back last Thursday. At no point did anybody anywhere look in the fridge, orbthe food cupboards for that matter. There were van checks made on the British side on the way out at the port in Calais, but this was more to check registration numbers and window numbers matched due to the large number of vans that have been stolen and replated, etc. No internal checks.

We were a little cautious and didn’t fill the fridge or freezer, we were expecting to make a trip to Lidl shortly after going (cost very similar to uk shops) but did take some essentials - if we had lost them it wouldn’t have been the end of the world.

Interestingly, there was an internal check made on return, I assumed they were looking for illegal immigrants, but they only looked under the mattress of the top rear bunk, two of the smallest high level cupboards we have and under one of the seat cushions - they didn’t look in the tall wardrobe or even the bathroom - very bizarre! I can only assume they were looking for Borrowers!

No expert but, from reading experiences on here, it seems to me that you are more likely to be checked if arriving in europe by boat than if arriving by train.

Cheers
Red.

We've been searched pretty thoroughly a few times at both Portsmouth & Ouistreham before getting on the ferry back to the U.K. At no time did they look or even enquire about the fridge or freezer. They didn't question the 150 bottles of chateauneuf du pape at each end either.

It's not worth their while searching for what's in our fridges - for personal use. There's no taxes to be collected on milk and bacon and what do they do with all the smelling and defrosting waste. We still take the contents of our fridge from home plus some English (Danish?) bacon.

It's not about the tax though is it? It supposed to be that due to leaving the EU our meat and dairy became a risk overnight.

Just been through tunnel UK to France no checks at all.

Same when we crossed on Tuesday, only checked gas was off.
