Hi folks, my daughter (all grown up bless) wants to come along with us for a weekend alongside the van in a few weeks and bring her boyfriend.
Looking on most booking systems, the allowance for a tent is limited to a pup tent and <16 yrs. She’s 26 so cant pass as a teenager!

What‘s the normal thing in this situation? Get them a pitch in the camping area and proceed like they are a seperate group or try to get somewhere that allows the tent + van?

I‘ve looked at quite a few sites now and (of course) they are mostly full in June, but looking for best practice from the time served folks.

We are aiming for almost anywhere thats nice in a 100-150 mile radius of Stratford upon Avon.

I would imagine that if the weather becomes settled enough - then we’d consider making some shade with the pull out, i’m not really a ‘turn up and make a homestead‘ type of person, preferring simple sites to glamping.

In the uk you will need two pitches one for the mh one for tent. If you book together and accept a grass pitch for the mh you should be able to stay together 6m apart

Extra car
Kitchen tent
2 man tent
Awning
Windbreakers out.

All on one plot, 6 people in Spain.

No silly rules, regulations or complaints.

Do they have the tent already? if not why not get an awning with a lining and they can use that as a tent, if our daughter joins us we put her in the awning (unlined) inside a small tent all on the same pitch, normally have to pay for an extra person but that's all

Ask them, they may prefer that arrangement as I guess they'll be spending most of their time with you anyway.

How about Lyndon Top? You do have to book now but you can pitch how you like and I wouldn’t think ever full. Walking and cycling, nice shops in Stamford and Oakham, , the garden of the BBC gardener’s world Geoff Hamilton are fabulous and nearby. Par 3 golf in adjacent area turn up and play.
But, It is a simple site so your daughter and boyfriend would have to share your facilities so might not suit.

Not a big fan of drive away awnings because we travel too much, but for your daughter and boyfriend it might be worthwhile investing in a second hand one. The awning would be accepted almost anywhere and you can still zip it up when you go out.

Stratford racecourse
Shrewsbury showground.

Both places you can pitch on the grass side by side as places are not marked as such or fenced off.
Either with or without EHU to suit and they have toilet blocks.
Walks into town as well.

Try Camping and Caravan Club. I think they'll be quite happy with tents.
From a practical side: Two additional adults would challenge my payload, to say nothing of the extras required to take with them. I think they'd need to follow separately, so would require a separate pitch and membership. The car may be useful for travelling around, though.

We managed to get two pitches next to each other when we stayed in Scarbourgh with our daughter and her boyfriend.
Last time we were in Norfolk there was a camper across a pitch with a tent behind it. They had a wood burning stove in the tent. A few people commented mostly about the smoke coming from the tent but the site owners didn’t seem bothered.
I think the answer is to ask the site owners.

We ran a rally at a c&Cc site a few weeks back, one member with a motorhome brought adult children and grandkids in a tent. Tents were not yet allowed on site due to needing own sanitation, facilities closed, so they shared facilities in the van as one Very large unit.

c&cc rallies and THS sites are very well set up for this and it is a regular occurrence.

We have a 2 berth van and take 3 grandchildren 13-17 they sleep in the awning, never had a problem, whenthey were younger I slept in there with the 2 younger ones.
Regarding transport I take van and 2 boys, John takes himself and car, eldest grandson is dropped of by his dad. we get a whole 36hrs respite, then take the other 2, we use the dinette to make up a bed for our grand daughter, but she is nearly as tall as me so that wont last long. (she's 7)

Sorry perhaps I forgot to mention that! They are coming in a separate car.

On the case now, thanks for all the super helpful responses.

We have stayed on many a site in the UK and the continent where we have paid for one pitch, 4 adults and pitched a 3 man dome tent behind or at the side of the motor home. If all on one pitch shouldn't be a problem. Additional car they will charge for and may ask for it to be parked off the pitch in a car park area, we have done this before.
I have always thought caravaners get a better deal than motor homers as they get room for, caravan, awning and a tow vehicle. Motor homers get room for motor home and an awning if lucky.
