So, I have Swift, Bailey, Roller-team, Knaus, Weinsberg and now.... Malibu!
Quite impressed with them, loving the double floor, the coffee maker! With options of an oven and the fact it looks exactly the same as a Cathargo!

Thoughts.........

Does that include the panel van version?

And a Frankia?

Simon asked for thoughts.

Six manufacturers seems a big range to cover properly, both for sales information and spares stocks.

Just my thought

Geoff
Very good point

Better for the customer in my view at least he won't have a shuttered veiw of one brand.

How would you see Malibu being positioned in the Market as it does not seem to me to be similar to say Sunlight the entry level brand for Dethleffs or Carado foy Hymer ?

I can't say much about their coachbuilts, but Malibu PVCs are priced at the luxury end of the market and kitted out accordingly. Definitely not entry-level.

We looked at one before buying our Knaus last April, I was very impressed with it and couldn't see a massive difference between that and the equivalent Carthago although I understand they are slightly different in construction. The one disappointment for us was the payload, if I remember correctly it was very small and the van was 3.5Te and could only be uprated to 3650kg according to the dealer.

I looked at all of these plus the Malibu before buying a Knaus and in my opinion the Malibu is far superior to the others you mention.

We looked at a Carthago 150 C tourer and the the Malibu i500 they are both made in the same factory interior and layout identical, both double floor and identical storage/ garage all using Carthago parts, the main difference is:

Malibu use the Fiat special chassis,

Carthago Alko chassis,

floor and roof both from GRP,

Malibu wall construction aluminium, rtm foam, wall board 33mm thk

Carthago aluminium, rtm foam, aluminium, 35mm thk

All outside under floor lockers on the Malibu are made from Aluminium, rtm foam, aluminium same as Carthago

10k price difference which paid for my 4c air and jacks on the Malibu.

Is that a stepping stone to Carthago?

Looked at them when we bought this van found that by the time you had put a decent spec on them you were up to the same price as a Carthago C-Tourer but without the Al-Ko chassis and the full double floor so the C-Tourerif was better value, that was at German prices.

If you don't add too many extras they are a good buy and well built.

I thought sunlight, carado and dethleffs were all part of the hymer group. Sunlight and carado made in the same factory (same vans really but with different trim to aim to slightly different buyers) and dethleffs being a bit posher.

Not over here Lenny well at least the ones I looked at they both have full double floors now.

Malibu are built to the same standard as Carthago where as Sunlight and Carado still use timber frames inner walls are timber, the chassis is a standard cab chassis not the camper chassis. Compared to Hymer with no timber inner walls aluminium and either Al-Ko or camping chassis.
However they are very cheap if you buy in Germany but get ripped off in the UK.

The 2021 Malibu range have incorporated the carthago radius roof corner construction as well now but you do loss internal cupboard space.

Interesting watch

I would be keen to look at a Malibu next time we change, nice looking van me thinks.

I used to do a some work on these, PDi's, Upgrades, Handover's etc
The panel van version pre-wired solar panel wiring goes from the under cab seat leisure battery and terminates under the fridge { so it is only 1/2 pre-wired in reality - The hard bit is reaching the solar panel on the roof }.
The insulation is about an inch thick rubber foamy black gluey type stuck on matting.
The ceiling is a perforated stretched thin cream cloth type material.
The sliding bathroom door is well built but heavy, so much so they tend to derail themselves from the flimsy door runners.
The shower screen is like a kinder surprise tricky folding type meccano affair once you have slid the toilet out of the way.
Saying that I would have one. They sell well.

No one has mentioned much about the Malibu PVC's got to be amongst the best PVC's around. If we ever downsize to a PVC, Malibu will be at the top of the list.
Nice looking vans with some nice layouts, they are expensive but well worth it.

An expensive option copied from Possl, they look cool, if spending over £70k on a PVC they are a must have.
