Hi we have a carthago motorhome and I have taken out the table because we found it to big
We are now looking for something a bit smaller, has anyone changed there motorhome table
and what did you change it to and where did you get it from? Photos would also be helpful.

Regards Joe..

I'm currently having the same 'discussion' with my husband ... I want to take the top off ours and put a smaller one in but he wants to leave the original in even though it makes it a bit restrictive to get from the front seats to the rear (gawd knows why as he's fatter than me!)!

I have a couple of spare 'table' tops, well one's from a round kitchen table I bought years ago for £5 for the purpose of using the top in a MH (which I did) and the other is the oblong top of a chest of drawers (£3 again from a car boot sale) which I had in our last PVC.

Despite the ongoing 'discussion' I have a plan ... when he's out one day I'll get my bits and bobs together and hide them out of sight in the garage then the next day when he's out again walking the dogs I'll change the original top for one of the others and see if he notices!

I removed ours in the Rapido as it was far too big for the two of us. On removing found it was also extremely heavy. Replaced it with a tabletop from an accessory shop at a show and a single Desmo leg. Its light and easily removed and put in the drop down bed while travelling which makes more stretch out room for the dogs.

We decided not to have the table fitted in our new van as we had struggled previously with the huge over-engineered heavy table in our previous van. We fitted this instead.

We decided to change our table as it weighed 10k, trying to help the pay load. Looked around the DIY shops and bought some 'clic clac' flooring, cut it to the same profile as we liked the size and shape of our table, using the original frame work screwed it on. Not as solid but adequate and 7k less in weight.1573547543783226291736.jpg

We took the top off ours and had a smaller one made and fitted it plenty on ebay

I have a carthago and also removed the table, I now use a fold away table and store it in the garage takes 30 seconds to set up but loads of room when put away
The picture with the table in it is just for show we actually turn it 90° when we use it
It is also very light compared to the oe fit one

This is our table arrangement, hole in the floor between seats so you can fix it, but we also have a tripod foot thingy that we can put the pole in, and have the table where we want, we can even use it outside.

The table in ours was huge. Took it out but leaves a round hole in the nice carpet, covered this with a rug and gives us much more room. We just use a small portable table now and have a nice foot stool. I'll post up a pic or 2 later.

we bought a leg with a turn table on it , I modified to make it slide both ways , then had a top that folds in half with the use of counter brass hinges made by a Kitchen company, fitted to Motor home , then removed it didn't like it , put it in our garage knocked it over chipped top!!

Look at Lagun table legs and then get a table top made to any size you want. We love ours

there have been a number of threads related to tables you might want to scan.

Hi Tony, that's exactly the type of thing I would do, not the modifying, that would be beyond me, the knocking it over '\

I replaced the table top in our Hymer MLT 620 as the original was way to big for us.We got the replacement top made by a local company that manufactures kitchen units.
The cost for the top was about £50.00 pounds which included materials (600mm x600mm) They had plenty of laminate offcuts and we picked one that suited us and that matched existing decor.
I mounted the it on the original top mounting to retain the ability to slide and lock the table.
if anyone goes down this route make sure you pack and store the original top securely as an original one from Hymer is over a grand!!

I am away from home at this time but if anyone would like photos I can provide them next week.

Minxy Girl can I come and watch? have been wanting to take out our big heavy table which stops me from comfy lounging and repalce with somethong smaller, only thing is it does work so well for feeding 6 when it is icy or wet outside,

I took the massive and really heavy table out of our Rapido with the intention of making a smaller top. A couple of days later I saw a 2ft round table with fiamma leg and tripod outside a charity shop for £3. It suits the job perfectly even though the wood effect laminate is different to that in the van. We only put it up for meal times indoors and stow it away when not needed. It is so much better, giving a huge space in the lounge area. The original is wrapped up and stored in the spare bedroom at home if we ever decide to sell the van

We used the original plinth (post), and after trying plywood templates we agreed a size and had a 30mm thick laminated table made to our laminate choice and size. They send samples of what offcuts they have in stock. Lamform 01202 892 485 cost about £60 including delivery.

Here is what it looks like from a generic online photo with the table in...

This is now...much more room to relax and put your feet up.

We did the same with our oversized table in our Rapido.

Have never understood why motorhome tables are made as heavy as possible. First thing to be stored ! Try 'Go Outdoors'.

Like many before, we also removed the table from our Carthago Chic C Line within a short time of ownership. We just found it so difficult to get around it without risking our backs twisting.

Advice given when removing the table is to tighten each bolt before removal. The nuts to each bolt have three spikes. By tightening them thus forces the nuts to bed to the underside of the floor. Remove all bolts, then the table then replace bolts carefully, finding each nut but making sure you do not push the nut away from the underfloor. Apparently it’s a devil to reach under the floor to get the nut onto the bolt if they fall away.

We then found a table at one of the Warner shows (£26). It easily folds flat and when open is the same hight as the Carthago table. When folded down and parked up it is stored under the steering wheel when the drivers chair is rotated. Whilst on the move it is put on the bed under a pillow.

You've just given me an idea! I have a folding table similar to yours but just a single 'cross' bar which I got at a show many years ago, it has a nice resin/plastic type top which I may be able to utilise in place of the existing table top, alternatively I'll have to see if I can remove the large fixed 'leg' but then there's the issue of having to remove and store the table each time we move, the upside is it would give the dogs more room to sprawl ...
