Is the main central bolt tight?
If that is the problem loosen it put some thread lock on the thread and retighten.

Hi thankyou for your reply, is the central bolt accessible ?

Thanks I’ll take a look

Hi there is no if but because it sits on round bearing about 300mm dia

My seat (VW T4 base vehicle) rotates on a ring of maybe ten 1/2" dia steel balls, each retained by a 'hole' in a heavy steel plate (also about 300mm dia) which is attached to the underside of the seat. The plate is secured to the seat base by a threaded stud with a locknut. I had to remove the surprisingly very heavy seat completely (by removing the seat slider 'stops' and sliding it forward and off its runners/rails) to access the plate.
It's a frustrating job lining up the very heavy seat's 'feet' with and into the runners when putting the seat back.

Thanks for that sounds like a big job
Did you have to replace the bearings of grease up and did it solve the problem ?

My problem was not a clunking noise but that the seat slider mechanism was jammed and it wouldn't slide. I had put the job off for about 4 years!
TBH removing and replacing the heavy seat was a trial of strength and patience - manipulating the unwieldy seat was knuckle-scraping work, really needing two people but there's not enough room for two people to handle it, plus hidden or virtually inaccessible Allen-headed bolts and nuts dropping off into voids........(and I've been restoring classic vehicles as a hobby for 40 years).
Yours may be easier. Grease may help but you'll still have to get to the right place although as a wild guess I doubt that lack of grease is the problem as it is unlikely that the balls have become sufficiently 'dry' to make a clunking noise.
If the bearing plate is loose you will probably be able to rock/lean/wobble the whole seat back and forward and side to side.
