Swallowtail Butterflies. (2 Viewers)

Presently on a campsite at Eucalyptus in the Ebro Delta Natural Park been here for a few weeks. 10 or so days ago witnessed the Northern Migration of European Swallowtail Butterflies over 2 days 50-60 of them passing through over a couple of hours around midday all headed Northwards. Then they stopped as the winds picked up, nice calm sunny morning today and they started passing through late morning and yah managed a photo or two. Beautiful things lucky to catch one resting they are strong fliers and usually don’t rest.

These will be last years, so have over wintered. Always nice to see them and seeing so many in that short period must have been wonderful.

Are they the same as the Swallowtails in England?

These will be last years, so have over wintered. Always nice to see them and seeing so many in that short period must have been wonderful.

You can see it’s an older abraded individual and missing the so called tail from its left wing.

We saw some last year in France at our son's place. Impressive

We were surprised to see one a month ago at a friends house near Chirivel, feeding on Quince blossom.

We usually see a few this time of year that have overwintered here in france, then again in a couple of months when this years become mature. But we mainly see loads of the yellow and black stripey swallowtails, that ironicly the uk name is the scarce swallowtail.

This is what we see the most of, (known as a scarce swallowtail in uk) but not usualy until early june.
