newbie i'm afraid
Hi. First time going to France in the van this September.
We are heading for the Gironde and Landes and although we like touring would like to find a good site that we can stay for a while with……..
Walking distance to surf beach
Shade - maybe forest
Can put out chairs etc - so not an aire

Am currently trawling though search for sites , park4night, camper contact , ACSI etc but would love to have a personal recommendation from someone who goes down there to surf

Thanks All.

I was last surfing there fifty years ago but I'd be careful about camping in the pines. Anyway the cicadas will deafen you.

Appreciating the difference in swell from one day to another, best waves we caught, really clean, were further down, surprisingly, I think it was Ondres but we stayed in aires.
A few years since we have been down that way but would suggest looking for a shady place in September

Have look at Labenne-Ocean. It is a CampingCarPark place so you can put out chairs tables etc, EHU, waste, fresh water, lots of shade, about a mile from the ocean, good daytime cafe at the car park there, turns into a fun resto in the evenings.

Hi, I’ve surfed (waveskied) along parts of the west coast of France. My preference is to stay in La Tranche and surf the beaches to the North (Bud Bud). I stay at a great site Baie D’Aunis which is on the beach but not a surf beach. Most of the beach car parks along this coast have height barriers in the main season (maybe swung back in the autumn??) Campsites start to close in September. The surf is typically a short board beach break but with some longer wave periods suited to long boards and wave skis.
I have also surfed just south of Biarritz staying at Pavilion Royal campsite with direct access to the beach. The surf can be very heavy with big rips, frequently red flagged and rightly so.
Another option is Camping Puits de L’Autre just north of Royan, not on the surf beach but with some height free car parks. I have not surfed there and you would need to check the surf guides. ,
Unfortunately I’ve hung up my waveski, my 74 year old body became a liability 😩😎
Enjoy.

Souston Plage, not the cheapest aire but you can put chairs, awning out has electric as well. 5 minute walk to a fantastic surf beach 1 minute walk to a beach on a tidal lake. Plenty of restaurants and bars around and some great cycle paths.

Check the most recent info about prospective sites; 5 burnt down in the forest fires over the last month. I'd think that more fires are likely.
