Hoping to get into France soon now UK is back in favour! First time abroad in our motorhome is there a suitable supermarket near the tunnel exit that has parking for a motorhome? Any suggestions would be greatly received. Many thanks
Lilli (y)

There is a massive Carrefour at Cite Europe which is right by the tunnel entrance but not too clever at the moment with all the immigrants in the area
Most supermarkets have loads of room for MHs.
You be aswell getting away from Calais and stopping down the road a bit.
Google is your friend.

Plenty of supermarkets when you get out of Calais. If you’re putting your route into sat nav, add a supermarket as a stop en route and you’ll have plenty to choose from.

We’ve never found a supermarket car park we couldn’t get the van into!

Intermarche is our supermarket of choice, closely followed by Le Clerc and Carrefour.

There are also Lidls and Aldi everywhere!

Have a lovely trip - you won’t be disappointed!

Personally I wouldn't stop anywhere near the tunnel and instead drive further as less risk of migrants trying to get in your UK reg MH (they won't necessarily know you've just arrived in France!).

Which direction are you going and what time will you arrive (French time)?

I wouldnt , now , stop anywhere near Calais , for reasons others have stated above . Coming off the train literally takes you immediately on to the well sign posted motorway for whichever direction you intend taking . Have a great time over there, am sure you will love it.

Yes I did wonder about refugees, thanks for the reply

When we stopped at Lidl,s there were immigrants hiding in the bushes waiting for an opportunity. No thanks. Buy your shopping well away from this area.

Some hypermarkets in large shopping complexes have height barriers, but there are routes into some which bypass these. Funnily enough we don't think we've ever been in a hypermarket car park which didn't have another MH already parked there.

A few years ago we were near to Paris and quite a few, not all, had height barriers. Talking to some French folk on the campsite they said that it was for exactly the same reason as most over here to keep out the travellers.

If heading south on the A16 there is an Intermarché and a new Lidl just off Jct 36 at Marquise. It's about 15 minutes from the tunnel. Good parking and usually a good price for fuel.

We stop there on the way home and fill the tank and wine rack in the Intermarche!

Many thanks for this info, as you can tell we are complete newbies, it's been 40 years since we landed in calais previously! I guess the world has changed a bit 🙈 thankyou for the map that's awesome 👌

Cite de Europe hang a right as soon as you exit the tunnel. Would I stay overnight there now No and would I probably visit in the dark also a no but I would be happy to park during the day there if someone stayed with the van.

There are a few migrants around Cite de Europe but nowhere near the amount at Coquelles or down by the ferry.

Hi Lillibob with our 8m MH we have used the E.Leclerc at Boulogne HERE when heading south and if heading north the Auchan at Grande Synthe HERE just outside Dunkirk.

If your heading south and anywhere near Rouen we often stop at Pont de L'arche for the night and like the Super U right on the roundabout HERE just before crossing the Seine to the Campsite Eure in season or adjacent Aire HERE. Enjoy your new adventures :)

:giggle:(y)bless you thanks so much for the recommendations yes we are heading south all the way to Portugal so we will be stopping overnight at various points so far only done UK but really loving it!

We’ve always stopped and shopped at Auchan and filled with fuel etc!No problems!but in September we stopped at both City de Europe and Auchan!Had immigrants break into camper whilst wife was sat in it ar Auchan and attempt to break in at City de Europe. This wasn’t late at night but early afternoon on a sunny day!We had our lateral flow tests in the car park at City de Europe which was great but you need an armed guard around your camper to stay there😊

Your very welcome Lillibob. If it’s me your thanking it’s Roy 😊 Sharon doesn’t use forums, only blags her way into my Instagram account to get the adverts 😜

All the links, like in my post, used to be recognisable like this I tend to use the word HERE to show them but recently we have now got a dictionary of common MH words, like PVC and Aire which automatically appear in bold. If you click them they take you to their meaning. Hope this assists in the future 😜

Bless you thanks im learning lol 😆

France is full of good supermarkets. The French are inclined to put supermarkets in Commercial zones, just out of town. Look out for Cora, which tend to be good value. Although Cite of Europe is good, give it a miss as said by others.

OK Don't stop at Citie of Europe with a camping car as the Gendarmes say ""Ezz Dangerouse ""

There is a nice Auchan at Boulogne Sur Mer that also doesn't mind you staying overnight - it opens late including the bar

We always stop, first night outbound and last night inbound, 3 hrs south of Calais.
Arcis sur Aube, it near Troyes, half a mile off the Route des Angles the E17/A26, exit 21.

It has a large Carrefour at 42 Rue de Brienne, 10700 Arcis-sur-Aube,
It has a town square with bar, bakery, cafe, and a couple of restaurants.

And it also has a Dutch run campsite on it's own island which is staggering distance to the middle of the town.
Swimming can be done in the river, the village beach is by the campsite.

Camping de l'île Cherlieu Rue de Châlons, 10700 Arcis-sur-Aube,

Agree, Calais shopping is a big no no.
We always shop at Auchan in Boulogne. Very large car park, range of shops inside the centre. Good brasserie also inside the centre. Diesel price is usually very good at the separate fuel station which also has an aire.
