hi, any suggestions / diagnosis? Strikeback alarm fitted 1999 on our T reg MH. Has been working fine, with fresh batteries in both key fobs a few weeks back. Last night went to disarm and no response to either key fob, even right up close to bonnet, doors, windows. Can arm and disarm with the over-ride security keys (putting up with the siren for a few seconds).

Does the system eventually run out of transmitter codes, and need re-programming to the fobs? Can a mains spike confuse the system (it was on trickle charge through the MHU, and we've had a couple of power cuts). I haven't disconnected the battery for some weeks (and I always deactivate the alarm beforehand anyway, as prescribed), and it hasn't gone flat, so that's not the cause.

I'm guessing I may need to send unit & fobs back to VanBitz, but any other advice?

thanks, Mike

Have you called Vanbitz?
Even though it's Easter Sunday, I'm sure they'll have an answer machine.

Eddie is posting on here today

If your not using the motorhome, and you are arming using the silver key, why not call the office on Tuesday where they will have access to the installation notes so will know what model you have, what options were chosen and where everything is.

Not being rude, a 23 year old installation will even tax my crap memory regarding the operation etc

However, if your not our customer, you will need to register with Van Bitz before the guys in the office will give you technical assistance

Happy Easter from the Highland of Scotland x

Thanks all, and Hi, Eddie - from the south-east edge of the Highlands, where we live!

We're registered with you, so will call the office Tuesday, I'd just wondered if anyone knew a simple answer to this, but with almost 50 already viewed this thread (amazing in such a short time!) I guess there is no simple answer ...

If both keys are playing open, I'd guess something local is blocking the signal, a bit of a coincidence for two keys to go wrong simultaneously

Have a good weekend

Perhaps try turning ignition on and off, might reset alarm. Good luck

Good suggestion, Smudger, but just tried it without success! Interesting possibility Eddie, can't think of anything round here that could be strong enough signal to interfere (sparsely populated). Don't know if there's an aerial to receive the key-fob signal? I've found rodent damage in the past behind the dashboard, maybe a mouse has nibbled the aerial lead!

A group of us out for a bimble (not) stopped for fuel at a garage in the middle of nowhere. When fuelled one of the group couldn’t start his bike. After a few minutes the attendant came out and told us to push the bike down to the second gatepost on the left and it would start.
We did and it did! 😳😳 Turns out a police mast nearby blocked the garage but not the second gate on the left :rofl:

Pal,of mine had his bike parked in a hotel car park in Holland. Would not start. Disarmed the alarm etc. No joy.
Hotelier said move it about 10 ft. Started. Seems there was some underground coms stuff interfering with his electrics.

Yes I was going to saytake it up the road somewhere and try again.

intriguing possibility, though it's where it's always lived, and no new installations anywhere nearby, but I'll give it a go tomorrow. Going to be awkward if I can't set and un-set the alarm where it has to stay when not in use ...

On Vanbitz advice, sent the ECU and fobs back, where they found all working individually but not talking to each other! They re-synchronised the fobs to default positions 1 and 2, with no improvement, then tried again with positions 5 and 6, successfully - in Ash's words "For some reason it seems that the unit has lost the ability to operate on positions 1 & 2". Freak occurrence, it seems!

Great you got it sorted.
Not bad 1 freak occurnce in 23 years of use.
I have always rated the strkiback system and have so far ( 10 years on this current one) only needed to odd LED.

Excellent. Love a happy ending :dance2:.

It’s very reassuring that after 23years, Vanbitz are very much interested and willing to support those of us who unfortunately get an issue arising with our installation. Well done to Ash and all the team at Vanbitz (y)
