Staff at the DVLA, are to strike from next week for four days. This is due to concerns over COVID cases among staff, there have been more than 500 cases since September. The DVLA are disappointed, and say motorists would be affected.
I would have thought they would be concerned for their staff.

I was of the impression that most of the DVLA staff were working from home. That is the excuse they have been giving for the piss poor service recently. But then it is hard to tell the difference from normal service from them

I thought that the 500 cases was some time ago. Back last year. And there was pressure on the bosses because of it.

So is this new news? Or is it from the previous 500 cases.

till waiting for a driving licence to be processed, two weeks now.

8 months for me next week. Their departments have finally agreed with each other that I am actually perfectly fit. 😌
Mines only a change of address and issue of new photographic one for the wife. They have her passport (non UK ) so good job we are not heading overseas soon.

Good for the staff their well being and their families should come first rather than just hitting KPI’s

So no sympathy for the staff who work there then. Only gripes and complaints.

Of course I have sympathy for the staff, as I would for any Public Sector workers who are under appreciated.(y)

However, the only people inconvenienced are the public. The back log of work will still be waiting on their return, and an even longer list of complainants.:(

Not trying to make any political point here by the way.(y)

Going on strike is normally the final throw of the dice for people before they either leave or break.

It isn’t nice, creates an awful atmosphere and job insecurity as well as financial loss for all. Nobody wins.

The fact it has got this far is worrying in itself.

Bet the real reason is they have been told to come back into the office, and they like sitting at home.
If you have ever worked for Toxic management you will know why people strike, or leave an employer, most people like to work have a sense of fulfilment and and if fortunate a sense of Joy whilst working.

From my personal experience I don’t think the DVLA has been fit for purpose for some time.

So I can understand it are you saying that the jobsworth attitude of many I have spoken to at the DVLA is because of the management of the DVLA, and that they have been educated with that skill or do they just choose to be a pain with their "customers" as they call us because they don't like Fred their boss? To be fair I have worked for myself since I was 20, but previous to that if I did not like the employer/job/prospects I had I got a different one. Are you also suggesting that employees at the DVLA do not have the option to leave?

In the last few months I have had my D2/D4 C1 renewal and my up plating to 3850kg both turned round in about 3 weeks. Both are paper exercises that involve DVLA staff input. OK they did miss the Max permissible mass figure on the V5C but this was put right within 5 days with one message from me and one apologetic email and a revised V5C from them. I am not saying others haven’t had poor service but from previous posts I was expecting problems and was very pleased to find out that they can do things in a reasonable time.

Bang on, I've been there. Not on strike but we were due out on Monday morning, there was a deal done through ACAS to stop the company ripping the pi$$ out of us and taking thousands of pounds out of our pockets each year. This was in Utilities, we worked to rule which caused chaos yet the company still wouldn't listen.

I'd still work there today if they weren't trying to have the frontline staffs pants down while the directors were getting many £k's bonus for cost cutting.

Time and a place for everything.

Only affected me in a positive way, I took VR in the end and set up on my own, best move I ever had forced on me.

Dear God ,you must have an extraordinary amount of trust & faith.:pray:even if theypaid me I wouldn't send anything like that to them. Bad enough trusting them with a driving licence, at least they can replace that.

Are you feeling ok? "sense of fulfillment?" "Joy"?

At least 40 years.

Just for balance....In my personal experience the DVLA has been entirely fit for purpose for at least 50 years.😁
