Stone painting

Hi

I'm a total novice, but like collecting stones from places we've visited, and would like to start painting them, any advice and/or tips what I need to buy?

Just as movan says also acrylic pens are handy for the fine details, the stones I do and keep for myself I call memory stones because I take my stones with me in the van and get ideas, also lots of tips and inspiration on Pinterest..
It's a lovely hobby.

Elaine, as you will see from that video it is often easier to paint your stone first with a base colour depening upon what you are going to do with it.

E. G. if you are doing a sunset scene do an overall base of pale pink or such. Then when dry build up on your picture.

If a landscape, possibly pale blue... OFten white can be a good base colour.

Be careful which pens you buy if you go on that route, as some pens need a different type of lacquer spray and can just 'smudge out' when sprayed with mormal varnish.

This CAN give quite an effect unintentionally, which can be pleasant.. I quite like my 'fluffy' little bird. ().

As you see some are simple or as complicated as you want. For leaving stones, I do simple.

Elaine, don't buy expensive to begin with.. So you can practise. Proper Job sell packs of 10 or 12 paints also brushes. B&Q.sell spray varnish lacquer. (for cars)... Then buy more expensive when you are ready.

There’s a “thing” in Devon ( and other places, I’m sure) of leaving painted /decorated stones in parks, playgrounds etc.. for children to find. I’ve used all sorts of paint, little tins of metal paint ( ones you get in model railway shops) metallic felt pens and I’ve felted stones and decorated them with embroidery and beads. They’ve all been taken from their hiding places across Torbay!
