Is there a water filter fitted inline on this model and how is best way to fully sterilise the whole system? Also, does the Milton style steriliser fluid suffice?

I wouldn't use Milton, or indeed an chlorine based cleaning solution. Whilst there may be a trace of chlorine in mains water, in a more concentrated form necessary for sterilisation, it may actually attack some of the softer stainless steels used in MH's especially in the boiler systems.

Puriclean is a better bet (uses Triclosene sodium what ever that is).

Milton is corrosive to stainless steel as used in most water heaters.
If you talk to the guys (gals are also available) at Alde they will warn you never to use Milton or any other corrosive cleaners unles you want to fork out many, many pounds for a new boiler.
Puriclean is the recommended stuff to put in. It’s in powder form so make sure to dissolve it in a jug of water before putting it in the tank.
Most camper accessory shops sell it as do Halfords and Amazon. It’s available in 100mg, about £5 at Halfords or 400mg sizes, about £10 delivered from Amazon.
Awaiting my delivery from Amazon in the next few days. :giggle:

Milton used once a year for 15 minutes - that's all it takes - is not going to 'attack' your stainless steel boiler...

Really? Why would you want to use a babys bottle sterling product when the proper Aqua pure tablet's are so cheap and definitely wouldn't damage anything.
I don't see the need for anything but that's me. Every drop of water you put in there is dosed with choreen to make sure it's safe to drink ----and then you tend to boil it before you drink it

Also best to descale the boiler once a year, I use white wine vinegar, you can use citric acid but don't leave that in too long.

As new to motor homing and in the caravan it was just Aqua roll etc and just used Milton but sounds I best play safe and get the Aqua stuff, thank you. Once put in tank is it ok to run through taps to clean them also?

Even in a caravan the boiler would have been stainless steel so you shouldn't have used Milton.

The trace chlorine in mains water is sufficient only to maintain potability in a clean, closed, pipe system. It won't be capable of sterilisation of any stuff that over the weeks and months can start to grow in your MH tanks and pipework. Remember you've potentially introduced contaminants by opening the filler cap, use of hoses and other filling implements. Worse as many tanks will be poorly insulated, in warmer weather the standing water will have been at an ideal temperature for bacteria to cultivate. If you've been to sites where their water is from boreholes, or similar their treatment may have been off UV lamps rather than a chemical dosing.

It's not necessary to treat your tanks for every trip, but personally, a clean out once or twice a year, especially after any longer lay off, seems sensible for peace of mind. After all do you actually get to boil every drop before drinking. How have you cleaned your teeth?

Milton is simply a very weak bleach.....For years I have used a cupful of the cheapest bleech (35p 2 litres) ran it through all pipework in the van and left it for an hour or so before flushing the system with clean water. It's not in the boiler or pipes long enough to do any damage to boiler or anything else.
I have kept one van for 8 1/2 years myself and I know it's still going strong on the same boiler upto last year which was 14 yr ago.dont where the van is now 😀

Got some Puriclean on its way to give the tank and system a good clean as it’s been standing for four months.
As it’s not been cleaned in the five years since the van was new perhaps it’s time.:Eeek:

I have a 50 litre fresh water tank what weight of citric acid crystals should I put in? Can I leave it for a couple of hrs then double rinse out?

I read 500g per 50 litres somewhere else but not done it myself yet.

For the lack of cost and peace of mind I just use a 400 tub of puriclean directly into my motorhome water tank once week before heading off.

Draining everything down before of course.

Run taps, ensure boiler full. Then @3-4 days later empty all, refill. Then on the day of leaving drain all, refill fresh and off we go.
