I have a test ride booked and feel resistance my well be futile... the reviews look great. Fancied an Adventure but realising I would dare off road it then started to seem like buying a Defender and never doing the same. This bike looks to be a good replacement for my daily VFR hack and upgrade in tech and grunt.

Anyone ridden a Gt?

Do it! KTM are the mutz-nutz.

I bought my 990 ADV back in 06 at the Scottish bike show, its now done about 45k miles, runs like a dream, still looks the biz and is the most fun I've had with my clothes on.

I'm off to the NW200 tomorrow on her and can't wait.

KTM's feckin' rock! And its not a GS...anything but that.

Ohhh I nearly said something about MCN writers that would of probably got me sent to Coventry :)

It's a crazy world we live in. 1300cc 173 bhp is same size and treble the power of our Polo. And it's only 200kg. How can a 200kg bike need 173 bhp ?

Naturally it has a TFT dash, no-one buys a bike without a TFT dash these days.

I hope it has active suspension, only third world refugees would buy a bike without active suspension and lean angle ABS.

Only recently picked up a 2019 model (175bhp...) after trading in a BMW S1000R.

Just had it's first service so not really thrashed it yet but first impressions are very good. Goes like the proverbial sh*t of a shovel. Really liking it so far.

I have the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, cracking bike in my opinion.

Has a TFT dash and lean angle ABS, but just regular suspenders which have been setup by MH Racing.

...and get the quick-shifter option :)

I have refined my list of test rides over summer to buy a replacement for my lovely VFR800 daily hack.

KTM1290 GT
Yamaha Tracer 900 GT
Kwak Z1000SX
Kwak H2 SX SE

I know two of those will tempt me with more BHP but just over 100 horses have been working fine so far.

Not really done much since the service as I'v been on holiday and just about to spend another 2 weeks working away. I do have a European tour booked for early July when it will get thrashed.

Still enjoying the little I have ridden it tho.

I had a vtec vfr quite a few years ago and remember it well. If you like the engine braking the vfr gives you will love the 1290 GT. Straight line performance is in a different league but I do like the engine breaking you get from a v twin. Just seems to be more settled as you barrel into a bend needing less front brake.

Anyone tried a BMW S1000XR ? Mate has one at work and loves it but hasn’t been without some reliability issues. That surprised me.

I was well impressed with a test on a Tracer 700. It did not lack speed possibly because it did lack weight which made it huge fun.

The weight thing is an issue. None of the big GT’s are light and my VFR is no different when fuelled up. Sometimes struggle to get it onto the centre stand with a full tank and panniers. Tracer lightest of the bunch and cheapest. 115 ish BHP prob enough too

I do. It’s why I so nearly bought a 999 S Duke some years ago after a test ride. It would have replaced my R1 as the daily commuter hack but failed to start after a rain shower when half way around the test route. Stayed with Jap stuff after that!
