Spring into summer in Spain

Well, I'm all researched out for the day. All previous research is likely to be put on the back burner for a future trip and we seem to be thinking of heading, on Monday, towards Avila/Merida/Plasencia/Bejar/Salamanca sort of. We can then access Portugal between Ciudad Rodrigo and Guarda (if we even go to Portugal this time).

Today we had our final Murcian ride this side of the summer. Just a local route with a few tweaks. We parked in the town of Librilla and, as we had just loaded the bikes up to come home and a guy from one of the houses across brought us some lemons and oranges and asked if we needed water. How nice 😊

Helmets are handy for more than protecting heads 🤭

PREPARING...Counting down to BLAST OFF 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♂️ I'm working against the heat, so where I wash our bikes over a drain will be in the full sun in, too late, it already is...but its only 23 degrees just now, at 0730 hrs....

What are your holiday plans for this year?
This year is about Germany, we already had a 2 weeks trip to Bavaria and Switzerland in April (didn't feel like doing a thread about it).
Next 2 weeks trip is going to be in October, this time the eastern regions 🇩🇪😄
Galicia is always in the bucket list as so many other places and so little time...🥲
Mrs. Peavy has a few trips already planned or in the making (Normandy, more of the french side of Pirineos, Dolomites, and, of course, more of our country) . Lots of inspiration here too.

"And Away"... weighed van...OK
Gave it a quick wash...OK
Dashboard warning light that the garage fixed last week...back on..🥴 but has been for half of the vans life.
Fuse blown on Android Car play head unit..🥴 Linked spare phone to Radio Aux...for now..just for Spotify and Google maps back up for Judith's sextant and compass...😃
Going to drive to a weather window in the Gredos, this should take 8/10 degrees off these silly temperatures...then plan from there...a long drive indeed from Murcia, but needs must...it was 35°c yesterday...but our apartment is air conditioned throughout...
Glad to be moving in the right direction..onwards and upwards..

Our spot for the night. 5 places for motorhomes in the Gredos, above the village of San Esteban del Valle, between Ávila and Talavera de la Reina.

The temperature is pleasant now and we're hoping it'll be a bit cooler tomorrow so we can get the bikes out to explore.

Not one of those sheep is wearing a hi-viz jacket.

Looks a perfect spot. I bet it'll be a cooler night (y)
Over 800m..so by altitude alone...yes..tomorrow will be 22°c so that's 13°c less than our Murcia location..
It's a wonderful location...some snow can be seen from the last fall..the mountains here rise to 2500m...in winter it's quite severe here...🥴🇪🇦🚴🚴

We wake to a part cloudy morning, a good night's sleep had by both of us, heard nothing, however the sound of running water alarmed us, after searching high and low in the van, a trip outside revealed the source, 🥴
The Municipal Swimming pool was receiving it first fill of the season...Phew.😃
Riding high, riding low, on our bikes we have to go...looks like a good day ahead.😄🇪🇦🚴🚴

We had a really good night's sleep last night, alone on our parking area. Tonight we are full (5) with one van turning away. This morning we could hear water trickling. After checking everywhere in the motorhome Martin went outside to find that the municipal pool was beginning to be filled.

Our van can just be seen 😂

We rode a Wikiloc route today and it was stunning. We can't believe how lucky we've been, coming here due to changing our route planning so many times due to the high temperatures.

We were actually going the other way, but Martin turned around to hide his bum.

We rode a mix of minor roads, a short downhill on the N502 and then some lovely sandy/gravel forest roads back down to Monbeltrán. We detoured to visit the Castillo de los Duques de Alburquerque but it's private and behind a locked gate. Guided visits are held on Saturday and Sunday.

From there we dropped steeply downhill to follow an old road between Mombeltrán and our village.

It's not snow!

We could see a bit of a strange, tented area. It turned out to be shepherds/herders' sheltering. Their sheep were,, as usual, blocking our way 🤣. Martin paved the way. The Mastin guard dog barked, but didn't even stand up. (We need to check the battery on our dog dazer now we're back in Mastin land).

Back at San Esteban del Valle

It's now raining, so the temperature is wonderful.

We were doing the via verde de la sierra from Puerto Serrano and came accross a massive herd of sheep, but the shepherds were a bit unusual, they were two dogs! We watched them take them down the old rail track a few hundred meters then they took them off down the hill to a farm in the valley.

The Mastins are bred to live with the sheep. Normally they are noisy, but not dangerous, but we've had a couple of close encounters that worried us. We bought the dog dazer for such occasions and it does work.

I suppose some people other than us know that, our current camperstop is located in a very cool location, temperature wise..
Perhaps that's why it became full and others turning away..
First night...just us, last night, lots..
Such a good area for biking and walking..pleasant surroundings too.😎🚴🚴🇪🇦
