We have a Kampa Air Awning which is leaking, dripping in quite a few places. My other half is trying to decide whether to use Kampa’s spray waterproofer or use a brush/tin of waterproofer and paint it on. Has anyone had experience of using either methods?

Is it leaking in the rain, or dripping with condensation?

Ours often dripped with condensation overnight. Partially sorted it with a lining (which can be bought for the purpose) we just used some stretchy fabric with fitted hooks to fasten on to the provided d-rings on the air beams.
Lining got damp during the night, but dried during the day.

We also sprayed the outside of the awning once a year with Nikwax waterproof spray.

When tents and awnings leak it tends to be from the seams and spraying the seams with some waterproofer tends to fix it. If its dripping in quite a few places then it could be condensation (as mentioned above) rather than leaks - in which case lifestyle changes (more ventilation) and/or a lining is the answer.

If it is leaking then I recommend Fabsil - when we were tent campers we never left home without a can of it. Though we're longer being tent campers we still keep a can of Fabsil to hand - comes in useful for all sort of re-waterproofing jobs (patio sofa covers, rain coats).

I used a spray sealant it stained the awning quite a bit but did the job of stopping the water ingress which was put to the test earlier this year in Spain during Storm Gloria... by god that was a test for the awning and the waterproofing.

Had a small leak in the stitching and used Kampa Seam Sealant

Thanks for the replies. It’s definitely leaking - we’ve had slight condensation before when using it, but this is definitely water coming through. I’ll look at the Fabsil. We have discovered that it is recommended you waterproof them about once a year - which we didn’t know.

We find ours gets condensation due to the fridge vents being in the awning🤔

We get a lot of condensation particularly during winter. Drips bloody everywhere. We have a roof lining which helps with some of the dripping. Needs an airing everyday.

I think it’s cold nights down in Spain when the fridge is running obviously heats the awning enough to produce condensation, I’ve found if we don’t zip up one of the doors and just leave flyscreen closed it does not occur.👍

I'm more concerned about you 'snuffocating' yourself whilst sat in there!

No I don’t think it’s enough to gas us as long as it’s burning properly as it’s not going that often and I have since fitted fridge fans so it’s kind of circulating more😊

I’ve just reproofed a gazebo I use to cover my P&J with Fabsil. Three inch brush on a long pole and it worked brilliantly. The gazebo drops down on its legs to half the height and it was really easy and went from a soggy mess when wet to the rain beading and running straight off

It is a thing of beauty for sure, I've always had a thing for fully galvanised twin axle trailers!!!;)

That’s a Phoenix trailer isn’t it? We have one and it’s really sturdy bit of kit have taken it as far as top of Sweden down to southern Spain without problem.😊👍
