can anyone help please....
Just returned from a week away, first of the season, filled up tanks and bled the water system..

However I cannot stop the taps from spluttering. When you first turn them on, they splutter, and then run normally. Then when you turn on the tap again it splutters. This happens on both hot and cold water....
The pump turns itself off as it should, once the tap has been turned off. The pump is a sureflo.

Thanks in advance

If you're sucking air in then I would expect you be letting water out. Search for a water leak ?
Unless it sucking air in on the vacuum side of the pump.... Between tank and pump.

Cracked filter sounds favourite.

Is the filter that little see through plastic thing just before the pump

On our last van the pick up pipe from the tank to the pump was pop riveted in place. The little hole in the pop rivet allowed air to enter and the water to drain back into the tank.

If your spluttering water does not occur after say leaving it for a minute after you have bled it but does if you have left it an hour.

Then the problem is probably on the pick-up between pump and tank.

Is there not also a 2nd pump for the hot water after the boiler - doesn't answer problem with hot and cold spluttering though but if water tank pump has air leak would of thought pump would keep going on and off once system full and pressurised

There's only one pump and that pushes water to the cold taps AND the water heater which then flows to the hot taps... No need for a hot pump.
If the air leak is BEFORE the pump it will draw air in but the system will still pressurise and turn off the pump as normal. You could even remove the pipe from the tank altogether and the pump would maintain pressure until a tap is opened.
Any little bits of air trapped in the pipes will be compressed along with the water to turn off the pump. The only time the pump will cycle is if there's a leak between pump and taps or a faulty pump diaphragm.

Reason i said 2nd pump is because when i turn my hot water on there is certainly something else turning on at back of van under bed area which sounds like another pump operating as well as the one operating from the fresh tank topping boiler up - The height of shower and the fresh water pump just topping the water heater up means it is quite a height for water to go and keep water pressure up - i think there is a 2nd pump for hot water which is why i have a very good supply of pressurised water on the hot side - maybe someone has fitted one on my van as an aftermarket fit but i do get good pressure on my hot water

My money is on cracked pipe or leak on filter. Last year I lost pressure and got spluttering due to O ring on filter leaking, glass housing needing a tighten.
Easier to draw air than lift water from the tank.
If pipe is cracked or poor joint then it is unlikely to leak as water will drain back to tank.

If it's the type of system with microswitches in the taps, maybe the non-return valve on the pump has failed, so the water is draining back into the tank.

this is my thoughts following @pappajohn reply, as disconnected the top of the filter and left over winter, maybe i need another half turn

thanks top everyone who replied. as suspected by @pappajohn and @Larby it turned out to be o ring rubber washer was not seated correctly. now working and no spluttering.... thanks

does anyone have a link to the o ring as i wouldn't mind having a spare
