I've recently had to change to a win 8.1 laptop, and use Firefox 74.0 as a browser. Since changing splell check no longer works on the forum. It is switched on in PC Settings and Firefox Options. Any ideas?

We don't have a spell checker here, if your spelling is checked on the forum it will be done by your browser, so maybe there is a switch to flick somewhere. (y)

Strange, there's switches on both the browser and OS, both are on. Thanks anyway

Have you installed a dictionary add-on in Firefox so your spellchecker can check against it?
Check in Firefox \ Tools \ Add-ons \ Dictionaries.

Used to be standard but suddenly wasn't in Firefox, and even now I find the add on inconsistent unfortunately. So if you have a great one please post it!

Brilliant, thank you very much

I've installed British English Dictionary (Marco Pinto) and British English Dictionary R1.19 for Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey. No idea which is currently working, or whether it is automatic, but it's restored automatic spell check. I really need it, not only for spelling, but I'm a lazy/rushed/unskilled typist:giggle:

Thats the one I have but on Fun posts it occassionaly jumps from a word being identified for spell check to then not. Its hard to replicate as its so intermittant. Sometimes it can show the whole post underlined for spell check. I will be interested in your experience going forward. I don't notice this phenomenon on other web sites. I have word spelt wrong in this text for example, when I corrected a spell error further down in this line the error above cleared but is still spelt wrong? Intermittant.

I've also noticed that very occasionally however, here's what they flagged up when quoting your post.

Interesting, intermittant and occassionaly flagged, but as soon as I back space or correct something else they dissappear as being flagged. See in this post, all clear as i press post reply but clearly wrong!!

Like you when I quote my post all the errors are suddenly marked again. Most odd.

Weird or what!

At least we have some repeatability. I will try using Chrome for Fun for a few days and see if I get any difference. Or do you have alternate comparisons?

OK definitely a Firefox bug not Fun. I do not get the same issue on Chrome, where I write from now. So perhaps its the add on for Firefox and we need to find an alternate as I cannot change from Firefox it has too many benefits for me.

Just a final reveal. I am on 2 other forums which are Tapatalk based and this issue does not happen with posting on them from Firefox, so it would seem to be a Fun-Firefox thing? Jim

I've just found that if you add a few (spaces) or
(carriage return) the errors seem to be flagged up again.
Or if you click away from the Reply box and back into it again.
Mmmmmmmmh

As you say weird and those are some of the issues I remember that created that unease and that the issue is intermittent.

It’s essential you check what you have typed before you post it, I got a text from a mate yesterday asking me “do you fancy a wank by the river”, I did actually but he explained he was asking if I fancied a walk by the river?

sallylillian Gellyneck How often do you close (reboot) Firefox. I tend to leave my PC on for days/weeks.
I shut pc's \ laptops down as soon as I'm finished as I don't know what one I'll be on next.
Firefox is set to clear history every time a close as well.

My laptop goes asleep multiple times a day, but I only reboot when something plays up. Same with Andoid phone and tablet. I think that before you press the post button click in the area above and check spelling errors revealed.

Remember that Grindr is not a spelling mistook.
