Anyone had a speeding fine in Spain and not paid it? What were the consequences? My other half thinks she will be banned from Spain if she doesn't pay it!
ps did a search but got no relevant posts.
Thanks
Garry.

Spain and the UK have an agreement to swap info. So if caught they can trace you, and I’d suggest to just pay it. At least you don’t get the points.

Looks like he's already been traced😁

Post the paperwork on here and get it verified that it's genuine...if we aren't 100% sure then Peavy our resident proof reader will be..🇪🇦

I'm for paying if you are guilty, why have the worry if you go back.

Who was it addressed to?

Just reply that it was not addressed to the driver, because if they pursue it in a UK Court, the court will only enforce it against the driver. The Spanish authorities should know this.

I know that in UK the police could force the registered owner to disclose the name of the driver, but I doubt whether a collection company will bother to go that far, or whether the information swap agreement goes that far.

As for an unpaid fine showing on police records, I wonder whether a fine passed on to a collection company is still recorded as uncollected?

I got caught on the motorway just south of Pamplona doing 89 in an 80. Letter came in about 3 weeks and I logged on to pay it before the cut off date where it increased to €100 from €50. On the site it had all my info as ownernof the motorhome and my passport number.

Make of it as you will, but they scan your passport going in and out. Also Brexit made no difference to data sharing.

Why bother, you'd soon be complaining if Pedro didn't pay his UK fine or toll?

What do you feel is the moral thing to do? It's not always about possible consequences, more times than not, it's about doing the right thing.

Do you have proof?
It’s something to do with the law in this country, having to declare who is driving, abroad it’s the registered owner that doesn’t by law have to declare to the U.K. system who was driving!
Haven’t you noticed how many foreign cars/trucks don’t obey the speed limits when going through cameras of any description, I saw a Kuwaiti bloody big merc doing at least a ton through some roadworks!

That said, if your post is aimed at pedro the Spaniard, I’ve no idea if the Spanish registered keeper has to declare who was driving to the uk justice system 🤷‍♂️

Just googled it and this is the first answer

I don’t think the uk chases the foreigners hard for anything, I think the NHS has just written off £250M due to health tourism (Sky news a few days ago)👍

I wouldn't say it's a moral dilemma. Morals are about right and wrong err.. morally. This is just some money someone wants to take off you, as a form of punishment for driving at what they think is too fast.

If you can get away without paying it good luck to you 🤞💪💪🤗☺️

I suppose by the same yardstick it's fine for some people to just chuck litter on the floor or steal from a shop as people are just judging them for things they just don't think are wrong . I think people visiting another country are not nice people if they don't respect the laws of that country whether here or anywhere else.

You suppose wrongly, Low life chavs drop rubbish on the floor and steal stuff. Why change the subject?

I think what he’s getting at is …the law is the law whether it’s speeding or dropping litter, you can’t say it’s ok to break one and not the other regardless of whether we think they’re stupid laws or not🤷‍♂️

They don’t!!
That is due to the laxity of the UK

If I get a spanish speeding fine & I wasn't driving then I can state who was .The Uk has the same facility to send spaniards a fine & ask who was driving but for some reason they do not
^the Uk has a full reciprocal agreement with spain which was introduced at the spaniards request as agreement for them to allow exchange of driving licences to restart for those uk foreign residents who had been too idle to exchange them when they should have done before & during brexit.

Since Brexit, the UK and Spain have a reciprocal agreement allowing residents to exchange their driving licenses without needing to retake driving tests, and also share information on road safety-related traffic offenses

The Agreement also provides for the exchange of vehicle and vehicle keeper data for the purpose of investigating certain specific road safety related traffic offences. Prior to the UK's departure from the EU, such information was exchangeable under the Cross Border Exchange Directive (EU/2015/413), which was transposed into UK law by Regulation 27B of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002 and facilitated by the European Car and Driving Licence Information System ("EUCARIS"). Regulation 27B was subsequently revoked by the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 and the UK’s access to EUCARIS ceased from 1 January 2021.

The data exchange has been included in the Agreement to facilitate enforcement

Approved by the Spanish government in March 2023

It could equally be said low life UK motorists ignore speeding fines abroad. They both have the same disrespect for the law.
