Carado t447
Hi, my wife and I have recently returned from the south of France where our fresh water pump stopped working. Which promts this this question, what spares do you guys carry when on your travels?

My van is a Carado t447

Thanks for any input😃

When I moved from my Landrovers I sorted through my travel tools and spares trying to keep things to the minimum but one of the lockers seemed to be quite full. I did manage to reduce it to a tool roll with spanners and screw drivers and three plastic storage boxes with odds and ends I might need.
Having said this I still keep up my breakdown cover for any mechanical issues beyond safe roadside repairs. Being retired I would rather go home and travel again than spoil a holiday by having to work on the motorhome.

Fan belts, cam belts, water pump, injectors ECU, head gasket, water pipes, Tyres and thousands of other items could all fail but mostly don’t so why worry. Personally I am more zebra 🦓 chilling out on the plains and only worry about something if it happens. It ensures a good nights sleep.

Others worry about a puncture and have sleepless nights

Breakdown insurance and acceptance that something may go wrong and if it does deal with it then. Europe is hardly made up out of 3rd world countries.

Have you tried to get a part actually from Fiat lately? 😄

I carry spares and a stack of tools in the certain knowledge that whatever breaks, will be the one spare I don't have, and if I take anything out it will be the one thing I will need a thousand miles from home.

Epoxy putty allowed me to repair the wash basin when a heavy tub fell into it. Also allowed me to plug a hole in the mirror support. Been a while since I saw any for sale and I could do with some more!

If you have the storage space then a full tool kit and spare bits is a great idea....however you must know how to use the kit etc. We have no chance or inclination to find out so apart from bulbs (legally essential?), a collection of fuses and duct tape we rely on the debit and credit cards and good recovery insurance.
