Autosleeper Cotswold
My 2010 Peugeot Boxer based Autosleeper is at the dealers having this minor issue of illuminated spanner light fixed as it's still within the three months warranty. I believed they simply hadn"t reset the service due indicator when they serviced it. However, they think that because the word 'Oil' appears briefly on the digital display (together with some filled in blocks above it) that it indicates a problem with oil level / quality.

From what I've seen on the web it just looks like it's a programmable option to choose whether oil level info is displayed when starting the engine.

Do any other Autosleeper owners get the brief oil message on start up but without the spanner light please?

It is telling you it wants a service. It goes off after 600 miles

I suspect its a potential problem with all engines, which can occur if you start the engine too quickly rather than turning the key to the first position (pre starter motor), letting all the diagnostics and injector heaters’ warm-up, do its thing and then continue to turn for the starter motor to engage.

Be conscious of waiting when starting and see if you get the same message??

The spanner can be reset through the setting’s functions if it has been serviced and they forgot to reset it.

Also check the oil level - on the level - with a cold engine.

On my previous 2013 Fiat Ducato, you had a service indicator and oil change indicator to reset after service. My garage forgot to do oil change one and spanner came on and then a countdown warning of oil quality, leading to eventual limp mode. Resolved by resetting oil change indicator.

The oil level was fine when I checked it recently and the garage have also confirmed it is good. I always wait for the glow plug light to go off before starting the engine.
I googled how to reset the spanner light but no methods worked. I did read that some need a special diagnostic tool to reset it - my OBD reader did not pick it up.

I still think the oil message is normal to appear briefly. The garage just need to turn the spanner off I think! They've had it a couple of days now. You would think it would be a five minute job for them.

Mine is the same year Ducato and is exactly the same indicator that I had. “Oil” then the spanner. It just wanted a service as it hadn’t been reset. I went through loads of YouTube vids, and forum suggestions, but nothing worked. I also found a post on here via the search which informed me after 600 miles it would turn off which it did. The information was from Dave Newall.

Thanks. I also trawled YouTube and forums but none of the reset methods worked for me either. The 600 mile reset thing seems strange but I do remember seeing that.

Roll on retirement in two months time and I will get that 600 miles done! Or the garage might extinguish the light today!

Mine caused me a lot of concern as it appeared when we stopped at the check in at eurotunnel and we had never seen it before. Didn’t know to continue with holiday or not. Bought oil asap and kept checking it, until I found the answer. But we soon did the milage to turn it off whist in France. 👍🏻👍🏻

The dealers have just phoned me to say they fixed it. When I asked what the fault was they said they had to recalibrate the sensor. When I collect it I will have to check if they have simply driven 600 miles in it!

On my VW turning the key doesn't start the engine, it starts the process, if the engine is cold it takes several seconds before the starer kicks in, when hot it starts straight away. I don't know if this is a new thing but it did worry me when it did it the first time 😀

Thornebt My 2015 Peugeot Boxer also displays and always has done, , oil level and 5 x blocks , (5 x blocks = oil level ok )when first turned on after a couple of seconds for a very short time.
The light reset I used was-Fully depress Throttle Pedal keep depressed - Depress the brake pedal -turn ignition on and continue holding pedals down until Change engine oil appears on the display - Turn ignition off and release pedals and start engine to confirm reset. (worked for me)

Thanks GeoffnDee. Exactly what I needed to know. I've printed your post and will put it in the front of my Boxer manual. I think my display was showing three blocks filled in but I checked the oil on the dipstick and it was fine.

Do you still have the fault? Then press the accelerate and brake pedal together all the way to the floor and hold it there, turn the ignition on and hold the position for approx 30 sec with the pedals pressed. Then turn the ignition off and release the pedal and wait for about another 30 sec. Then start up and the light should go out.

No dont have the fault but have used the peddle technique previously on my Peugeot van and various cars . I was just trying to be informative. (y)
