Planning a trip back to the UK in August and will most likely turn left out of the tunnel and head to Padstein. As it will be a long drive up plus crossing i was thinking about a midway stop on the south coast. Last time we did this we stopped at Stonehenge and had a nice day there (campsite just around the corner) and was looking for some ideas for a similar day, any ideas ?

Lyme Regis (hook farm in uplyme, lovely site & a lovely walk into town).
Wilding to the west of the river parrot nr Highbridge, Somerset (bit naughty but if you arrive late enough or it’s foggy you can’t see the signs), lovely nature reserve, stunning walks.
There’s a couple for starters

Thanks, will take a look at both. Lyme sounds nice(y)

Are you going to try to follow the coast - in August school holidays it could be a very long and slow journey, or go the way you went before, I assume using motorways M23, M3, A303?.

I’ve used the coastal route you are taking. Tedious and long in the summer traffic. OK if you’re not in a hurry.

Open to suggestion. Don’t mind using the motorway to get to the stop over, was just thinking the 4-5hrs across from the tunnel to Cornwall needs breaking up after the long haul through France (9hrs).

There are wilding place around Lyme regis/Bridport way but if you need to top up water etc Hook farm is one of the only sites I use, it aint cheap, but views lovely, books up early though.
What about Rye/Dungeness area, aint been there but if some helpful funster can oblige I will be heading that way myself shortly & that's a tad closer than Lyme Bay & just a stunning

I would use the motorway until making a decision to drop down to Southampton using M3 all the way.
Alternatively, you could come across on M4 and stay at Quackers which is just a mile off the junction to stroud/Bath
If you like coast, Uphill Marina at Weston super Mare is also lovely but more than twice the price .
