newbie but learning fast
Hi,
at present on Ile de Re near La Rochelle. Awning , Dometic has developed a problem and wont fully close (spacer on one arm fell off and tension has pulled joint into upper arm peeling back some metal stopping it closing) Does anyone know a Dometic service nearby , a mobile service preferable but any would do if I could cobble it together to make it safe to travel. The question is a long shot but just maybe?

Is the arm still under tension, and have you managed to replace spacer?

Ive detensioned it a bit to stop it (hopefully) peeling back further. The ”spacers” as I called them are probably just joint covers. I think that whatever fixes the alloy tube to the upper 1/2 joint either adhesive or pressure has failed and the tension spring is pulling the arm over the joint. Arm needs replacement. Big question is if I detension it further and flatten the peeled back metal can I get it to lie flat enough to lock it in place until I can get to a repair place. Thank you for help

That is what I would try.

If you cant get it all the way back in , some ratchet straps around it should be enough to hold it all together.

Or Duct tape, preferably white.......

Narbonne Accessories La Rochelle sell Dometic products they may be able to get spares.
Open 2pm tomorrow

Take the arm off, fold/wind in carefully, secure with a couple of ratchet straps.

Ive got some Heavy Duty Gorilla duct tape., Grey though. Ive got a few days here yet so hoping. I’d say even if I get someone who can spare parts may take some time. Does anyone know if I continue to de tension does it do so completely or is there some fixed pre-tension.
Might be easier to place in locked position if it did completely.

Just do whatever it takes, looking at the damage the arm will probably need replacing. It may be repairable but will not look the same. once fully in it is unlikely to come out especially if taped.

Thanks all for support. still don’t know how it happened, light usage over 3 years, no recent wind etc. Don’t know if it is a common occurrence. Will see about repair back home. Probably take longer than my stay to get parts here.

It will wind in with 5 cm gap, more at front. With strapping it will be ok until repair,

Just glad you have made it safe, have good trip

Ours was getting a bit tired so we called into Thule in Belgium and had it rebuilt for €220

Top job 👍
