We received our club renewal advice yesterday and also a "newsletter" email. The newsletter listed sites open fully, ones open with limited facilities and ones not opening at all this year. The ones staying closed was a worryingly long list of sites. I emailed the club asking why sites were staying shut all year, to date with no reply - Im not holding my breath on getting one.

We mainly use the clubs THS network a lot and very rarely use sites or their CS.

We are probably not going to renew this year so does anyone know what will happen to the "credit" extensoon on my membership for the lockdown months ?

From what I have read a 3 month lockdown will lead to an automatic extension of your membership by the same amount, and so on.

This is the reply I got last month to a similar question about extensions ( not closed sites):

Hello

Thank you for your email.

Due to our Sites network being closed in line with Government recommendations surrounding COVID 19, we wanted to make sure that you didn’t miss out on any value you would usually get from your membership as a result. The Club therefore made the decision to extend your membership for the same amount of time as our sites are closed.

You will have received your renewal letter and new membership cards as you normally would - valid for another 12 months, currently, none of us know when the Government will lift restrictions and allow us to re-open our campsites – it is only once this happens that we will know how long our sites have been closed for, and will then be able to apply the same duration to your membership.

Just to clarify – you should continue to renew as normal now so that your membership doesn't lapse, we will clarify how this extension will be validated once we re-open our Sites.

I hope this helps?

Thanks for the replies.

So it looks as if the extension only applies if I renew my membership and that I lose the period of lockdown if I don't. Seems a but unfair but jo surprise.

Why are bothered if you don't use club sites much? I would guess it is because they don't have the ability or staff numbers to undertake the more regular cleaning that will be required, but don't let that stop anyone having a good grumble abut it.

Stephen, I didn't say we never use sites and I don't think I moaned, other than thinking it was a bit unfair. Last year we had over 30 nights on THS and only about 10 on club sites. We live in the far north of Scotland, sites are limited but we have lots of THS, we have no idea when sites or gatherings will be allowed to restart up here. I can't see any point in renewing my membership for this year but, all things being back to normal, I shall renew next year.

If they are offering an extension then they will probably need to make sure you pay for another year. Remember it's the money machine called members they don't want to lose. They are really conning us into renewing when possibly we don't want to

I dont understand the comment, how are you being conned into renewing?

If you don't want to then don't renew simple really. I don't think you can blame them for their sites being closed!

I've got a frequent traveler and its been extended. Thats fine it's not their fault either. Before they agreed to extension they tried to offer a credit against extras but only if I bought another frequent traveler which I rejected. I can see why some would be miffed why do the CCC need to ask people to pay for another year at the moment as all the sites are closed they could just delay payment for next years membership or do what they are doing but offer a membership extension instead to anyone who wants that option. There could be some looking at packing in who don't want another year but might fancy a few last trips.

It’s probably easier for them and there system to just get everyone to renew as normal then extend all memberships at the same time or not who knows.

I suspect like most businesses they want the cashflow without having to ask the bank or pay interest. I think that's fine as long as it's stated.

I sent an e.mail to the C&CC about a month ago when I made a booking for a Camping in the Forest site, they took the usual £25 deposit and I’v got a booking reference number.
The e.mail to them was because I later found a page on their web “ All Camping in the Forest sites will be closed for the rest of the year “ I have received NO reply.

Yes it would be nice to get a 3or4 month extension, much appreciated - but in the great scheme of things, I don't think £10 - £20 worth is much to get worked up about.
Everyone has had unrecoverable expenses thanks to this bloody virus.
Folk have been losing their lives, their jobs, their businesses.

We left the CMC after 4 years of not really using their sites that often, we joined to get the ferry/tunnel discount, but didnt really like 2 sites we stayed on, where we enquired about vacancies whilst touring, and they made such a fuss as we hadnt pre-booked, and got a massive telling off at cheddar, because we arrived to enquire 20 minutes before the check in time of 1PM.
I did apologise for arriving 20 mins early, other sites are 12AM, but I did think thats it were off, not renewing next year.
Joined The CCC 1 week before the covid lock down, saw all the sites close, full timers being chucked off as covered here on Fun, so I exercised my right to cancel inside 14 days. I received an e-mail asking me not to cancel, and that my membership would be extended by however long the sites were shut for.
Reading now that some sites are open, others wont open at all this year, makes me think I did the right thing in cancelling and getting a refund.
We do use The Camping In The Forrest Sites, as prefer those to any others, if they are shut for the rest of the year, then that is sad news, the ones we used in The New Forrest, didn't even have WC's or shower blocks, so I cant see why they shouldn't be the first to open?

I think if both major clubs thought a bit more of their members ( their main income source ) and applied a more "fair" approach then we would all be more inclined to be sympathetic and support them.

Never forget that we, the members, are customers and should be treated as such.

Perhaps I'm being naive and the clubs accountants make the rules.
