Hi. We have an Adria 6m front wheel drive motorhome. Looking at snow chains for both snow and wet fields. Which brands are worth looking into? Thanks

I have Weissenfels Clack and Go REX TR 4x4.
They are 17mm square links Really meaty links and weigh a lot! (10kg for the pair)
You need to get chunky chains as the weigh of the van will destroy light links

Don’t be tempted by snow socks. They’re like putting your socks over your shoes and expecting them to perform like crampons. If you need snow chains you need snow chains.

Can recommend the Roofbox Company for supply and advice. +1 for Thule. And +2 for practice at home before you need therm!!

I have a pair but never tried them yet but I'm confused by your statement because France allows them instead of chains, why????

I never said they weren't allowed. I said they re not good.
I know you didn't say they were not allowed, I was simply asking the question, politely I thought, IF they are useless, why, when the French insist on snow chains, do they also allow snow socks?? (and should I just dump them? As I said, I am yet to use mine and IF they are useless, what's the point in me carrying them?)

I’ve only seen them used. I had chains on. The vehicle with the snow socks seemed to have trouble keeping them on the tyres and didn’t seem to have much increase in grip. The chains worked as advertised. My chains were on a fire truck I was driving.

Totally agree, no comparison to proper snow chains, only thing better is studded tyres,

The only thing that I found while driving numerous coach ski trips is, that should your snow chains come loose, they can rip ones vehicle body work and do £100's-£1000's worth of damage. The last thing one wants is a gaping hole on a slushy road!

So, you have not actually used them......

Having seen the other vehicle having such difficulty with them there’s no way I would spend money on them. They didn’t get up the hill with snow socks. I did with chains.
They couldn’t seem to make them stay on the tyres. As soon as any wheel movement away from dead straight the socks came off. If you want to get them go for it. As I said I will not be spending my money on them.

My problem is, I've already bought some because, as I said, I've seen what damage chains can do to my coaches IF they become loose so i thought I would try an alternative for the MH that is allowed by the French on the ski-slopes?

Thanks for your observations, I'll just have to try them and see, I do carry an alternative system, just in case. :giggle:
