Hi Guys

Are 16 inch snow chains going to fit any brand or type of tyre of that size?

Thanks
Robert

No ... you need to check the exact sizes they will fit, they usually have a chart giving details of the tyre size they'll go on.

@Robert Clark ... what are your tyre sizes? Our Maxi ones are 225/75 16" so we are limited as to what we can use, the ones that @colyboy has for sale are too small for us but do go up to 16" depending on the rest of the tyre size:

215/75-15
215/80-15
225/75-15
235/70-15
255/60-15

205/80-16
215/75-16
215/80-16
225/65-16
235/55-16

235/55-17

I'm thinking about getting them for my new van so don't know wheel sizes yet.

As already said, it isnt just the diameter - its the tyre width and profile which count.
A 205/75-16 chain set wont fit a 205/65-16 tyre.

Evening Robert,

Our tyres are 225/75/R16 and the last pair of snow chains we bought were (17mm chain) from Tyre Leader. Delivered from Germany in a matter of days and excellent service.

I think its more important you identify the correct tyre width (225 etc.) and height (75 etc.) rather than the diameter (R16).

If you follow the link you'll get an idea of the various wheel size options each chain type provides.

On a final note, you'll be glad you've got the E&P system when fitting the bas*#rds in snow!

Had chains in the past from brindley chains, they do industrial chains and snow chains, very helpful and knowledgeable,
Waiting on my new van to arrive so I can order, a quick quote of tyre size and away you go!

Many better quality chain sets are suitable for alloys.
They have rubber 'buffer' built in so the chain is held off the wheel.
Agree but Hymer state "do not fit snow chains to alloy wheels" probably to avoid warranty claims. Most Germans have a set of steel wheels with winter tyres they put on for winter use.
