A mate was doing some work for me today and he was using a transformer to power his cement mixer, the transformer was in my living room with the cable out of the window.
After a while another guy pops into the house to visit the toilet, smoke billowing everywhere, transformer slowly melting the carpet. I have been very lucky but, after a worrying couple of hours and a lot of cleaning my throat is quite sore, I have tried a salt gargle but with little effect so any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

keep your windows open to help get rid of the smell, but you may end up needing to redecorate. I found strepsil lozenges helped after working in fire damaged properties

There are some pretty nasty chemicals released from burning plastics, if at any time you feel like your throat is swelling, then go immediately to A&E.

Otherwise pain relief and lozenges with benzocaine should help.

** if in any doubt whatsoever dial 111 ** (y)

When a teenager I was asleep when a portable heater malfunctioned and filled the room with smoke. My dog woke me by sitting /lying on my chest and face ( I’d initially locked her out of my bedroom before I went to bed as she’d jumped in a pond late in the evening; then felt sorry for her so let her in)
Room was completely black, everything was covered in a sort of greasy black soot. Like you, I had a bit of a sore throat ( and lungs I seem to remember) but it soon cleared up.
If you develop a headache or feel your breathing is affected, call 111 for advice or go to A&E. And drink lots of water.
