Small diesel leak

2015 ducato a class started to smell diesel when i fill up. Underneath where the pipe goes into the tank there is a small drip from the metal cover that protects the plastic filler pipe. Could it be from over filling ie to the brim. Leaving early tomorrow for France .

The handbook normally advocates limiting topping off the fill once the auto cut out has been activated to 2/3 fuel gun trigger pulls.
