I'm a newbie
Our van came with a set of internal silver screens. Although the van was over two years old when we bought it, they look unused. During our limited use of it recently we didn't use them and suffered no ill effects. Are they just for use in extreme temperatures and would external ones be preferable. We saw a few vans wearing external screens.

Anybody else use internal screens and when?

We just thought it would be one thing less to carry around.

External,,bought a set of internal last year,,waste of money..If on an aire we just use the curtains but on site in hot weather external are a must.BUSBY. Suppose i should have said internal are brilliant so that i could flog them on here.:LOL:..

We inherited internal screens and they really worked well to keep the sun’s heat out.
Chalk & cheese compared to with & without screens in our cab area. 👍🏻
Haven’t had a winter yet so no idea about heat retention

edit: auto correct / spelling error

External silver screens are the best.
They're effective for both keeping the van warm in cold weather and keeping it cooler in hot weather.
Also, they are much more effective for stopping condensation.

Externals especially in Autumn/Winter time, although, we use our External all year round.(y)

Our van came with a set of internal silver screens.
Are they vehicle specific?
If yes, maybe the waste of money would be buying the already dearer external screens.
Internal screens will be better than nothing all seasons.

I’ve still to evaluate winter use, but in summer our cab with van specific internal screens was cooler straightaway.
We had no screen for the 1st week of motorhoming. And collected our screen part way through the trip so got the comparison I’m using.
TBF even when applying them you feel cooler as they go up.

Another vote for external screens, great to keep the heat out and reduce condensation in cooler times

External Silver Screens for us (saves having to get out the Window Vac to mop-up the condensation...... ;) )

External for us. Brilliant in cold weather at retaining heat at the front of the MH and stopping condensation on the front window. Downside is that they are bulky and sometimes need drying out. The internals seem flimsy. Internal for O/N stops in warm weather but they seem flimsy.

External every time. Keeps condensation away and intense heat.

I only have internal silvers and they are so easy to use summer and winter and effective enough for us.. I'm in no hurry to buy externals.

External for us - but we also use the internal ones if it is really cold.

Internal screens mean lots of condensation.

Are the universal ones ok or do you have to get them for your make/model. We have a Hobby Premium. New to all this!

External. Internal can reduce the heat from a sunny day a bit, but nothing like external. The sun hitting ANY internal surface turns light to heat, even a shiny silver surface. But it is not only that. Buy good screens and they come with a privacy screen. You can pull the front down and just have a netting base that stops seeing into the van from outside during the day, but still keeps it cooler than internal screens.

Ours are from Taylor-Made, but you will see mention of Silver Screens. It is a bit like the whole "I have a Hoover" thing, when they actually have a Dyson. Silver Screens has become the generic phrase because they are silver AND screens! We prefer Taylor Made due to quality and price. Nothing wrong with the others, but for our old van, they are a better fit and about 20% cheaper when bought. (four years ago)

Thanks for that, I will have a look at them.

I have both. I only use the internal when wild Camping so if anything happens I can remove and drive away without unlocking the van.

External ever time, I had a lot of condensation with internal ones, yet it doesn't happen in a caravan.

Used my Silver Screens for the first time last night, more to try them out than anything else. No condensation a real plus and as they fold down, a real bonus of not having to remove them if I'm static for a few days. I thought they represented value for money. Very easy to set up. Wonder if my view changes when they are wet and cold.

External screen. Makes a difference in colder weather. Don't get condensation on inside of widscreen.

Ours go in the shower when it has been raining. They soon dry out. Trouble is, if it is still raining, I get soaked too. The only downside of externals.
