We are sitting here all alone in the car park overnight, we arrived here too late and it was closing so I begged permission to park overnight. Solitude behind the locked doors but a noisy road going passed.
Tomorrow I will work my way around the hangars looking at all the little things.
Well worth a bit and the other half might visit the gardens next door to keep her happy.

Gosh it's YEARS since I went there thinking I was 16-7 ish (1970)

Got a few photo's scanned from ancient slide film bet it's different now

That was nice of them as I did not think it was open for generally camping but only on event days/weekends.

Top place to visit, especially on flying days. (y)

Been meaning to go there for ages.
If they might let us stay overnight it would be an extra incentive.
Would you be a pall and ask them tomorrow if they will allow overnighting for visitors or is it only if you really plead with them?

Richard.

They used to have one of the Only Flying Westland Lysanders too, But I understand it is having a major re-fit?. Went to one Flying Day, Their Sea Hurricane diplayed in tandem with one of the BBMF flight Hurricanes, Nice to see as more often the Spitfire usually gets all the glory.

Just Noted the Lysander is back in flying condition. We saw it fly at a Westlands Air Day back in the 80`s. SWMBO worked for Westlands in the 80`s 90`s and was involved with the earlier restoration in that she was instrumental is preserving the "Type Record", the document which basically shows how to build an Aircraft and which was used when this aircraft went to Duxford for restoration.

I flew in a couple of weeks ago free landing and nice cake!!! (but not free cake that would have been a definite result). The flying prom show in the summer is good full orchestra a flying display with fireworks and flag waving at the end if the evening is calm enough they fly the old edwardian replicas used for the magnificent men in their flying machines.

They do have camping at their events so would be interesting to see if they would generally allow it...

It is not available generally but the LAA were holding a sminar there today, and I belong to that organisation.
Biggest problem we have is emptying the cassette as I only brought one this time, and it seems to fill at a direct ratio to the inability to actually empty it in a civilised manner.

If you walk around the back of the hangars and IF the toilets there are open (y)
Great place to visit, do it twice a year myself, visiting that is

Got my Rugby colours playing for Shuttleworth Agric College in 1962, Mrs Shuttleworth lived in the college, and we heard a lot about Richard her son who died during the war hence the collection of aircraft

I go to a big hot rod event at old warden in August every year, have done for years. Allways see some old planes flying around but never actually been in to look at the shuttle worth collection. Too busy talking hot rods and looking at them. Must go and see the collection next time.
