so the water pump has been failing to turn off for some time but water okay from taps. SWMBO fed up turning on/off at panel.
Step 1 checked for obvious leaks and poor connections & replaced the top elbow joint near the water heater as it had debri in from a broken push in connector and was dripping from pipe under MH - drip stopped but pump still not turning off.
Step 2 attempted to adjust pressure switch in base of pump - pump didn't cut off however many turns I did either way and water has now stopped coming out of taps!

QUESTION Am I at the point where I should shell out £50 for a new pump?

Sounds like faulty switch. They are available separately or a Sureflo pump is £45 approx like you say.
There is debate over whether the adjustable flow switch should be at bottom or top of pump. Most I have seen are upside down label so screw adjuster is at the top.

Take the pump to bits and clean the valves. May keep it going a bit longer. And check there is no water in the pressure adjuster.

If you fit a isolation valve on out going side, you can close off and check pump, a easy way to see if there is any leaks on system.

It's such an easy test and not too expensive. If it's not the pump, you've got a spare.

Air leak on the input side is a killer. We had one that showed up only in cold weather.

I have had a couple of issues with sureflow pumps in both vans.
The first one was a split filter casing after being frozen. The second one was the pump working intermittently because the terminals on switch at the bottom of the pump were corroded.
After repairing the terminals the pump wouldn’t turn off or would start at odd times, usually in the night.
In both cases the pumps had a very small leak that was hard to see. The second pump had corroded the terminals by leaking onto them.
I put kitchen paper on the floor under the pumps to see if they were leaking.
I bought a kit to repair the first pump but the second one was a replacement pump. There wasn’t a lot of difference in price.
