Getting there!
It turns out our perfect motorhome is Swift Kon-Tiki 625

Island bed
Full shower cubicle
Side facing lounge seating
Alde heating
Decent size garage
Full oven and microwave
Large Fridge

The ONLY thing we are not keen on is the retractable step as we prefer MHs with the lower ‘built in’ hab step.

It has everything we want but I was certain our next MH wouldn’t be British (not sure why as our current is British and not had any problems)

So for now it’s top of our list.

Anything that fits the bill is fine. British or not.

I have had a Hymer MoHo and a British caravan. The caravan leaked like a sieve and the build quality was poor at best, however if that’s the layout you want, make sure you get a good dealer and hope for the best.

They don’t all leak and some European ones leak.

I love the Kon Tiki range too.

If your only negative is the step then I think that is pretty good going
The external step could be a good thing? One of the drawbacks of internal steps is the fact that many are very narrow, getting in is OK but exiting needs care. Most external steps are wider.

I met a German with a Swift kontiki LHD
And he loved it very well built
He had only praise for the motorhome
Not all UK built vans are bad

Enjoy whatever you buy.

Having owned several motorhomes over the last 30+ years I believe layout is all important. If the layout is right for you go for it.

You can get good and bad examples of all makes, just read the problems suffered by some Hymer owners for instance and that is regarded as a “reliable “ brand.

All of our motorhomes have been British, because we prefer their layouts, nothing against the Continental built models which have different plus and minus points. We have experienced minor problems but nothing that caused us major concern.

The worst van I had was a Burstner 740, rear bathroom had 9 new door locks, water ingress twice ( in dealers for 6 weeks) new raised floor in lounge, new false ceiling in lounge, new wallboard in lounge(water ingress) all this in two years, the only good thing was Camper UK were absolutely brilliant in dealing with the problems as were Burstner. So not all German vans are complaint free :drinks:

we looked at the kon tiki sport range at the motorhome show at the NEC last year. Not that we were in the market or even able to afford one but we know that in a few years when we are in the market, we know that what we like exists !!

it had a fixed bed and a bathroom at the end, it was a 584 sport (just checked on line!)

we would really like an island bed with an end bathroom but we are well away from even considering changing vans yet but lockdown does give you time to think ....

I really like the transverse island layout but they have much less storage space accessible from the outside.

I thought that but when we looked at one the space and access was much smaller than our french bed locker.

We had a Kon-Tiki 625. We absolutely loved the layout and all the extra's - really comfortable motorhome, lots of space and a pleasure to stay in. We had a bit of a mare when we first bought it (new) - awful dealer support and arguement with Swift until we finally got all the issues resolved (taken back to the factory for rectification works), but after that we had trouble free use.

We traded it in after 3 years for a new A class and because we found the 8.1m length just too much of a pain for travelling and manoevering in certain places.

So if you get one, am sure you'll enjoy. Happy travels
