Never leave a campsite with your clothes line tied to a lamp post.
Well the title got your attention so I hope you won't be too disappointed with the content. We have a bird feeder in our garden and for some time we have noticed a lot of small black poo's in the area underneath it but were not quite sure who the culprit(s) were. So we purchased a cheapo trail camera and set it up during the night hours to solve the mystery. It will probably come as no surprise to a lot of you that we found we had hedgehogs in the garden and that they were very active throughout the night. We now find that watching the latest "Hog Cam" videos from the previous night is a must see part of our breakfast viewing and it certainly makes a change from the endless Covid-19 reports on the news.

As a result I built two cat proof feeding stations and Mrs Tinca has eliminated slug pellets from her gardening routine in order to protect what we have and to encourage more of these delightful creatures into our garden. We were lucky enough to capture some courtship behavior which is a noisy and persistent affair (not unlike myself as a teen) and I have posted the link below if anyone is interested.

The camera is an entry level Victure HC100 which was less than £40 and we would recommend anyone with an interest in such things to give it a go as its given us hours of pleasure.

How does a male hedgehog mate with a female hedgehog? ..... Very carefully!

Do these take an ordinary battery or do they have to be hardwired? To view images do you connect to your PC or just remove the memory card?
Thanks

I have the Victure HC200 for which I paid Amazon some £42.
Generally very happy with the results vs the price.
However despite the 16mp 1080p specification, the picture quality isn't brilliant, even in daylight.
I'm not convinced the 0.5sec trigger time is accurate.
My biggest criticism is that the infra red lighting seems to be focused to create a burnt out hotspot rather than being all over constant.

Jenben trailcam has much better resolution, despite the specifications being similar, but is nearly 3x the price

To answer your specific questions;
Mine takes 8x AA batteries, but also has a socket for an external power source
Mine's been running overnight & some days for two weeks & the screen indicates full battery power still.
To view images, you have three choices, first on the inbuilt 2.4" screen, secondly via a USB cable & thirdly by putting the SD card into a card reader.

See Jenben thread "Spike & the Vicar's Pussy" for it was that which was to blame for my purchase;

We are keen wildlife watchers in our house and have a Browning Command Ops Pro , just a basic one but it works really well, we did originally have it running on batteries but its plugged into the mains now, it has an SD card that we take a look at each day. Think we have had it a couple of years.

Two of our regular garden visitors

I got mine yesterday. Just over 40 nicker off amazon. HD video and photo.
Set it up last night and caught either singular lost baby boar or a hedgehog. He was too far away to tell but suspect hedgehog.
Nothing else all night.
Set up again for tonight.
I ll be sending it to both daughters as the one down the road has deer visit her from the woods occasionally and the other one lives in the middle of nowhere.
I also plan on putting it into my beehive for 20 minutes and see what happens when they are wax covering the honey. Or put it on a time lapse.
And i finally might be able to see some bats coming out of the bathouse

See hedgehogs almost every night out with dogs. Saw two this morning, must be getting jiggy as it’s spring. ;)
