Hi, does anyone have or know where to get a service manual for a 1993 Fiat Ducato Hymer 544 2.5D,
many thanks.

Was it the service manual for the Ducato bit or the Hymer bit that you were after?

I don't think Haynes ever did one if that's what you mean?
There is one "pocket mechanic" that may be of use to you by Peter Russec/Russel(?) but woefully lacking.
Have you tried the fiat Forum a wealth of knowledge
Was there anything spacific?
Had one or two 2.5s

Yes, on travelling down and across to Cornwall we found the Hymer did not like the long hills at all. We had to change down sometimes to 2nd gear on some of the long inclines. I know it is a heavy lump but think there is
definitely something amiss. Steve, another member told me things to check however I am not mechanically
minded so I wanted and engine plan to find the things he told me to check, many thanks

Sorry forgot to mention, it will sit all day at 60/65 on motorway but with no real oomph on inclines.

Sorry, can't help with your query but can I suggest you perhaps change your forum name from your gmail address (if it is).
You might leave yourself open to a load of spam.

I think you are simply thrashing it's nuts off. I guess it's an old heavy van with and high mileage engine. Try running at 50 / 55 it should keep that up on the hills

Think you might be expecting too much from a non-turbo diesel engine. But, first check the condition of the air filter......you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding that without a service manual.

Goes well when not under load, then dies on hills if right foot is down pedal to the metal? Signs of a clogged filter, possibly.

One little hidden jem on the old fellas that gets overlooked, possibly

Is the little filter at the end of fuel pick up pipe
In the fuel tank.

On the floor between the seats you'll see a panel under the rubber mat, which when removed will/should expose a ring of 8mm nuts and a click lock wire connector careful removal (careful with the rubber seal) and that will lift out the sender/float unit.
At the end of which is the little wire gauze filter push up and twist(from memory) if fouled up then wash out with soapy water or white spirit, dry and replace all.
Done one or two like that over the years.
And don't think you would find that in a Haynes manual.

Also use to get a few old smiley transits in with same problem
Good luck
And yes a forum name change poss to avert spam?

Hi, you probably don't have a problem with the engine, maybe as has been suggested air and fuel filter replacement may make a difference.
I used to have a 1989 Hymer 534 with a similar engine, hopeless on hills. I then replaced it with a slightly later 534 but with a turbo on the engine, massive difference.

Without a turbo or an inter cooler it won't have any guts except on the flat.

Thanks everyone for advice and comments, will try filters etc, cheers, Dave

You could also try selecting a lower gear on the hills prior to losing momentum and keep engine revs high
