Seeking a mainstream 12V TV manufacturer for motorhome

Indeed they have!

A surprising number of domestic 240v Smart TVs are actually run off 19v DC via the transformer/PSU on the 3 pin mains lead. You can buy a laptop 12v to 19v PSU on eBay etc. and run it from a 12v vehicle ciggie type socket or wire it into a suitable 12v supply.

We have a 22” LG Smart TV/Monitor from an Argos sale and it’s working perfectly in the van - also has the Firestick piggybacked on it’s USB port with no issues.

I think you may have been able to find TV/Monitor previously as you describe but not anymore.

I’ve recently been through the process of looking for a monitor as you’re suggesting and couldn’t find a single one with an off board 230v power brick so that I could run off 12v using a buck converter.

Have been looking for a 12v tv around 28" can get them at about £450 yet a 32" which is a bit too big are only £250. We have an inverter but would leave cables across the habi door which isnt a good idea

I’ve just looked on Argos, and although they don’t list the 22” LG unit I purchased now, the first Broken Link Removed I clicked on has a Product Information Sheet linked that shows it is 19v DC with a 240v to 19v external PSU on the U.K. lead.

Yes, you would need to connect it to wifi, either a dedicated mifi device, motorhome wifi or using your phone as a hotspot, site wifi may not supply enough bandwidth to stream tv consistently. Be aware that streaming tv uses a fair amount of data so depending on the amount of viewing you intend to do you need to have a contract that offers enough data for your needs, i stream a lot so I have unlimited data contracts you may need less.

Thankyou

Maybe that’s the route I need to take.

And to think all these changes, including the inverter, was just so SWMBO can use hair straighteners 😂

Roughly, 1 gb per hour for T.V. Mirrorcast, = very little usage, but prior downloading required 🤷‍♂️ . I have, very occasionally been able to download on site in the U.K.
Mike.

Sorry, should have been more specific. 🤦‍♂️

I was looking for a 21st century monitor 😉 not a HD ready screen, rather full HD or 4K… I went with a 230v 4K one in the end as they just don’t exist with an off board PSU.

We don’t watch very much tv when away.
I look at it if we go away and watch a load of tv I might as stay at home to do that 😉😊

If others want to watch lots of tv that’s their choice 👍😊

For some of us who travel for extended periods it is home, so need all the trappings and comfort of home! ✔️👍🏻

That’s a totally different scenario.
As you say it’s effectively your home the same as if I stay home 😊

Hence my rider in my post 😉😊

Okay, but you made a bald statement that they don’t exist when they clearly do. There are probably many of us that when travelling would rather be out and about than glued to a screen, so ‘last century’ 🙄 technology is more than adequate.;)

Possibly the OP might agree with that! ;)

We ended up (*as did someone else at Cornish farm judging by the boxes in the bins) with a Bush 24" 240v smart TV from argos. Does not have the 19V power supply, howveer did have decent DTS sound built in (it's good enough to not need a soundbar, we have one at home, and it's "good enough") and it's also got a DVD player not we needed it. £129 from Argos, theres only one listed!.. The saving literally pays for the stuff needed to run it.

Why when we looked for 12V before and even purchased 2 faulty Cellos which went back? Well we have a solar battery/inveter already in the tech drawer (was £200 with panels from Amazon) and as it's ca[pable of running the home 65", it's more than capable for running a 24" for 12 horus. It also recharges in 2 hours of sun, so suits us for offgrid use. But given we're on hookup more than not at moment at least it's fine for us.

Only thing ^ doesn't do is satellite which the Cello did do, however we don't have satellite dish in the mh, thats wasted on us.

Ah, so less function, more form then. Perhaps a more suitable option is a smart phone if all you want is to watch the odd programme, now and then ?
Mike.

I live in mine full time hence I stream a lot, also my mobility is a bit restricted with arthritis in my knees so I can't do long walks anymore, how I miss my youth, wandering around Snowdonia, Dartmoor and Exmoor :( now I have to watch others do it on tv :giggle:.

Try telling SWMBO that 😊

Think I’ll get something a bit bigger 😉😊

Absolutely people should do their own thing.

Why be a sheep when you can be a leader 😊

Silver fox you have been asking all the questions i was going to ask.
Cheers 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I’ve had a scout around on prime and found an RCA tv.

It’s 12V so no other items to buy.

It seems quite basic but is supposed to have a picture better than HD called FHD.

It’s £84 and I’m thinking it’s got to be worth a punt.

Any comments welcome 👍

I think FHD means full high definition or 1080P most smaller tv's are HD ready or 720P the more pixels the sharper the picture as a general rule.

Thanks, it seems to get reasonable reviews and apparent you can hook it up to a sound bar or a speaker.

I would need to use a fire stick but don’t see that as an issue.

Just to throw my twopenneth in. We have an LG 24” smart tv, which comes with a 240AC to 19.4DC power supply.

We power it in the van through a 12V DC to19.4V DC Power4 Laptops converter, which is housed in a cigarette socket plug. The TV cost £140 and the power supply about £36. It knocks spots off the over priced, over rated Avtex in terms of appearance, picture and price. 👍

This power source was mentioned by another member.

I prefer to keep things simple if I can and less “equipment “ to run it.

Although the prime one isn’t a smart tv although another member suggested not getting a smart tv.

I bought a Sniper 12v tv,dvd & Sat from Amazon.
They are the same as sold by Falcon motorhome products but with a different name and around £50 less.
