Hi All,

I am trying (without success) to source a supplier of replacement sheets
for our bi-fold shower door. I'm looking for 2mm thickness. All the suppliers I have contacted only do 3mm.

At the mo. it would seem that the product is one sided frosted acrylic. I've measured the thickness
with a micrometer and it comes back at 87 thou which, when converted returns at 2.2 mm.

I'm reasoning that the axtra 0.2mm is accounted for by the 'bobbling' of the frosting on one side.

The sheet is held within the frames (there are two) by strips of softish plastic beading on one side.

Thoughts please on any suppliers of 2mm and further thoughts from anyone who has used the 3mm.

PS The channel the sheet sits in has an opening of 5mm, widening inside the aluminium to 8mm.

Thanks in advance

My thoughts.

Plastic supplier I know is ensinger. Think that is how it’s spelt.

If you can only get thicker plastic, you could just run router along the edges to thin them to any size you require

If you don’t fancy routing the edges to remove material, then don’t use the rubber seals to hold the plastic in frame, just bond it in place with sealer. Or part rubber, part sealer.

Take a look on eBay there are lots of acrylic sheets on there and some will cut to size.

Thank you.
I have already looked on EBay and, although there are suppliers of 2mm, they don't do frosted in that size.
I discussed the alternatives with SWMBO and she doesn't want 'Clear' acrylic. I can see her point even though it's hardly being used in a public area.

Have you tried AMARI plastics?

Thanks for that Martin,

I had a look but the site wasn't as user friendly as I would like and it was quoting 'Names' and not products. (Hope I'm explaining myself.

I know what you mean, might be worth a phone call.

Tell her she is too fusy, they are clear in our van as in most modern Hymers.

Hi Emmit, I had exactly the same problem , I bought two sheets from The Plastic People, for £16 .

Fiddly to fit but, took my time, worked well.

either use 2mm plain and add self adhesive vinyl to obscure, or use 3mm and block sand the edges on one face to reduce to 3mm

Maybe a frosted vinyl sticker ie on the outside ?

That’s what I would do or acid etch it.

I would also make sure it’s the “bullet” proof stuff as if you fall against it it doesn’t “shard”
