hi all the roof on my old mh is oxidising (little rust holes) is there any thing that I can paint on to seal the roof? Awaiting a solution with bated breath. Any helpful solutions will be appreciated. Tricky dicky.

The simple answer is yes...
the more difficult one is - what!...

If they can send folk to the moon.. then sealing oxidisation should be a p.o.p

Sorry I can't help anymore than that..

But i'm sure there will be someone soon who can... be more constructive ;)

No expert but... I would think fill any holes with body filler, paint roof with rust primer paint, then follow up with a good automotive paint or look at boat repair specialists and see what they do. I assume your roof is aluminium?

There is a rubber paint that can be applied and I think they do it in different colours. Read it on one of the forums. Biggest problem is the underlying structure if it's oxidising how do you get anything to stay stuck to it. The alloy has to be very thin in places and you have no idea what it's like underneath. Whatever you do is only going to be temporary.

You could try one of many flat materials including reflective tar paper, stick it over the roof and it should not only stop any potential leaks, it should reflect the hot sun away from the inside of the van. Another aternative could be self adhesive fablon type of material or even a vinyl material as used on cars. Frankly, if you do not make a perfect job, nobody will see it from the ground, looking up.
Lastly glass fibre matting over the whole roof, then spray it.

If not too many you could fill them with Gel Coat filler, I did that on a caravan wall once. The proper way would be to re-skin the roof over the top of the exsisting one.
Another option is what they do on yank RV's they apply a rubber coating I think you just paint it on.

Thanks everyone for info I think I will be going with Greenway suggestion and bite the bullet.thanks again all.

I would a. Get rid of the surface rust,
b. Apply a cure rust treatment
c. Re-cover the roof with coat of aluminium, reflective, rubberised paint.
Relax.
Mitch.

It's not rust, aluminium corrosion just need a good clean up first.

Pardon ??
I just assumed that the OP knew his own van ! !
IF it IS indeed aluminium, then as you say, the surface needs treating.
BUT, One of the characteristics of Aluminium is that it "age hardens".. That means that, just as steel oxidises (and results in what we call rust).
SO does Aluminium, but the result is is known as "surface hardening". (Aluminium oxide)
I would just give it a quick clean and coat it with a proprietary product, such as :- "Black Jack" Solar reflective aluminium paint. ((5 litres for about £19.))
Mitch.

PS. If it IS steel, then a silver hammerite may do the trick.

Elastimerc roof paint as per greenaway.

Our first, many years ago, mh was an aging yank, ali roof with areas of corrosion and small pin holes here and there. Wirebrushed the corrosion and pin holed areas, cleaned the whole roof, panel wipe, and sealed all joints with self levelling sealant. Followed distructions for the roof paint, several coats , and clean tidy leak free roof. Not cheap but it worked on ours.

One consideration - if any roof-mounted equipment needs to be removed for repair the coating will be damaged. I'd be tempted to remove everything (especially rooflights) before applying the coating.

Just straight forward (as long as you don't mind black) Bitumen paint from B&Q. Slap it straight on, will outlast van and is reasonable price.......(y)

Thanks for all the advice I don't care what colour it is as long as it works plus I can't see it on my travels just need the good weather to last to get it done thank again T D.
