Hi all off on 19th aug 6 week trip around some of scotland and skye 15 sites booked, really looking forward to it never been to scotland. Bit worried about the midges but otherwise cant wait to see the views and hopefully spot a golden eagle if we are lucky. 🤞for calm weather. We are doing a loop, not going onto nc500 so working up to inverness then down a diff route, finishing in derbyshire and the monsal trail cycle ride. Any tips re the midges appreciated. 😊

Don't feed them!!!!

I'm a big fan of Smidge, it works much better than Skin so Soft as far as I'm concerned. You'll be able to pick some up in outdoor shops like Tiso. The midges don't like wind and they do like shade; so sheltered and shaded pitches aren't as appealing when you're up here as they might be elsewhere. Standard flyscreens might slow them down but they will get through.

My tip is to take your camera, some stunning scenery. The ORIGINAL avon skin so soft and citronella candles do help.

When we were last there they did boat trips from Portree on Skye to look for White Tailed Eagles. We saw 3, very enjoyable.

Definitely smidge. If you get a chance get out a n the water in a kayak. Shieldaig adventures are great for that if you’re over that way and you might we’ll see a white tailed eagle there too.

Buy a good quality hat with a midge net fixed to it .
Ive stopped going to scotland between end of April and end of September due to the little Basxxxxs.

Only ever been to Scotland in the winter, love it :h: planning another visit for Feb/March.

Only ever been to Scotland in the winter, love it :h: planning another visit for Feb/March. I get attacked by midges everywhere I go though !!! more so in the Derbyshire Dales.
