Lots but slow learner.
I know it's been advised before but would be grateful for a recap.
I am planning to take a scooter on a rack to France, Spain and Portugal soon.
Q. What documentation, other than the V5 and Insurance will i need to take to show whoever to allow me to return with the scooter.

I think you are supposed to have reflective stickers on your helmet, not sure it applies to visitors but we added them anyway, this for France. Google still shows people selling them.........

We were stopped by customs at santander, all they wanted to see that my passport name and address matched the 5v details. Have a great trip.

Nobody bothers with that. Unless of course, you get a trainee gendarme 😁

I’ve no knowledge about this, but it may be of interest in case…

'British motorcyclists who had their bike transported to the European Union, often ran into trouble and were confronted with high fines in EU countries.
Following action by FEMA, FIVA and NMC, the European Commission has now confirmed to us that taking a motorcycle or a car with you from the United Kingdom to the continent should not be a problem'.

(Note that although there are no formalities it is recommended to carry with you a copy the E.U's letter for which there is a link in the article).

I’m guessing you’ve already verified van payload/rear axle loading etc?

We've taken the scooter with us countless times, never taken anything but insurance documents and copy of reg document. Never been asked for anything. 👍

Indeed i have. Had enough reminders on here to do so.

In 40 years of m/bike touring abroad I've never bothered and the leaflet with my Shoei helmet advises never to put stickers on the helmet.

Stickers on helmets? I've always been advised never to put a sticker on a helmet unless approved by the helmet manufacturer. Some adhesives can degrade the helmet material and hence integrity. Whether that's true, who knows?

The issues raised previously have been to do with concerns re the ‘importation’ of a vehicle and associated payment of vat. The letter shown by Rowlybirkinqc should ease concerns for any customs staff. It’s always been the case that temporary use of a vehicle eg a scooter in France for a few weeks, should never attract payment of vat or require completion of a carnet document. It’s exactly the same as taking your motorhome into France. It’s different if you are taking it for commercial purposes. As well as usual mot, insurance and V5 I am fortunate enough to have original invoice detailing sale and payment of vat so at least if there are concerns re payment and reclamation of vat there is documentary evidence of payment.
I wouldn’t worry about taking a scooter on the back of a motorhome. I don’t think anyone from customs will be interested!

I don't think stickers are so much of a problem with modern helmet materials, but I still wouldn't go overboard.
At least one of my current helmets came with a set of French style stickers from the manufacturer (Schuberth or Shark, not sure - I just remember seeing a sheet in the box).

All good to know.
I did take a scooter on a rental MH many years ago with no issues but a lot has changed since.
Thanks all for putting my mind at ease.

Shark helmets come with the stickers, but then they are a French company. ;)
