It’s a fair old walk to Scarborough from Cayton. I too used to live there. I’ve even run it the other way round carrying a hundredweight of coal but that’s another story from the distant past.......:.Can’t help as we went to the C&CC site last September and really enjoyed it. No good to you but...
Close to the Cinder Track cycling and walking path.
Close to the Cleveland Way coastal path.
Walking distance to Scarborough.
The staff were great.

Blimey, the old coal race.... Haven't heard that for many years. It’s a fair old walk to Scarborough from Cayton. I too used to live there. I’ve even run it the other way round carrying a hundredweight of coal but that’s another story from the distant past.......:.
Did it several times. Rugby. Coal hump to give it its proper title. It was totally and utterly nuts. Your head buried into your chest and filthy. Still it was downhill from Osgodby!!Blimey, the old coal race.... Haven't heard that for many years.
As you know, was an annual event.
Yep nice area. Bit sleepy as all seaside places at times but as many other traditional single industry towns, struggling for a new identity and purpose.Marty Gilly and Pup We walked in on the Coastal Path and really enjoyed it. Two buses stop outside the site so we caught one back. Sods Law that the return ticket we bought the next day on the way in couldn’t be used on the bus we caught on the return bus - different companies.
I couldn’t get over how close Cayton is to Scarborough sea front, or how big Cayton is. It could be because the bus doesn’t take a direct route. Really enjoyed Scarborough and Whitby even though I didn’t expect to. It shows I shouldn’t have prematurely judged them by my preconceived stereotypes!
