So we pulled up today outside Santa Pola on a very popular free parking area. Very busy. Managed to time it right and have had a beautiful sea view right at the front. Much sought after.

About 11 ish the German van next to us moved and put out a table and chairs to save the spot. Surprisingly despite at least 10 vans pulling up and arms waving frantically. The space is still there over 6 hours later.

Would you have moved them? I’m surprised nobody has.
Personally I think it’s a jolly poor show akin to towels on the sunbed.

Looks like someone could park there without moving them anyway, plenty of room for an aire.

maybe the concorde at the other side did that, and is how it ended up with spraypaint graffity on it

Is this not what UK sites advise when leaving a booked pitch and returning later, to show that the pitch is actually paid for and will be again occupied upon ones return?
I know this is a ' free' parking area, but perhaps someone has thought this was acceptable as they were returning later in the day and had already ' bagged' a pitch?
So glad I don't ever wish to get involved in these Aire type sites and pitches.
Give me good old regimented , lines of definement on pitch space, on a well run site every time.
Only my opinion though, so don't shoot me.

I would leave them as I wouldn't want the hassle of the argument that is bound to ensue
I agree ... I wouldn't have moved them

if it was not affecting me .. it's none of my business ..

often see ramps et al left on pitches when people go to dump and fill up with water.. done that myself ..

but not really playing the game leaving stuff and going off the aire .

I’m not bothered about them being there. Don’t agree with what they have done though.

I was hoping someone would move them just for the entertainment value.

Germans you say? 😇😆🤷🏻‍♂️

The first time we stayed at “4 winds” in Gruissan, it’s a paid aire and we’d paid for a couple of nights. We left for an hour or so to get some supermarket shopping and we left our stuff out reserving our place as we were returning. On our return we got a right bollocking from the ladies who run the place and who brandished written instructions, which we had not been given, but said reserving your own place, which was paid for, was forbidden. Lesson learned! It’s still a go to place for us though.

I think you will find that common practice on the continent, people have to go and replenish gas or shopping etc and just leave their camping chairs in their spot. Annoying yes if you are looking for a nice spot but just chill you might well be in the same situation in a couple of days

Yes, been there, they are quite formidable but, to be fair, some of the clients need to be kept in line.

As I said it doesn’t bother me as I have my place and he’s next to me. Just a general question really.
I totally understand going for services and the like 15 minutes.
He was gone for 9 hours. Hence the question.

Apologies to the Germans. Just seen his plate is Slovakian.

Etiquette varies from one country (or even part of a country) to another.

I would watch what the "local" people do and follow suit not wanting to upset anyone.

Going out for a day from a free aire then I think you have to take your chances as to having a space when you return but that's what I think and I may be wrong. A paid for space is different except perhaps you are guaranteed a space but it might not be where you parked the night before if you leave and come back. A more regimented site you have your pitch and that is yours for the duration.

I've witnessed Spaniards simply remove/chuck any items left on a parking slot and move in.
Most - not all - have tended to be from the “gipsy” community who will not stand for such nonsense.
I have applauded their actions and enjoyed the ensuing confrontations when the absent mh returns, albeit always with one winner.

The joys of free parking and aires eh.
Let me pay for my own spot with some comfort and facilities everyday.
It’s a question on what would you do.

I’m quite happy here and personally love the place we are at with all the comfort and facilities in the van.

Is there any relevance to the nationality of the people leaving the stuff to reserve a place?

Given the current progress on illegal immigrants to Rwanda maybe this is the furniture for our fallback option of seaside accommodation in Spain?:whistle2::getmecoat:
