Can anyone tell me if there is a simple to use & sensibly priced Sat TV system? Just want something that's easy to set up for those odd occasions when there is no TV signal & something we actually want to watch!

Sorry dont know anything about Sat systems...

We invariably use streaming now. Data is so cheap - takes about 1gb to watch 1 hour TV.

Simplest way is buy a cable to connect the charging point of your phone to the hdmi port on your TV. Download the apps you need and watch away.

Bonus is you can watch them when it suits you with catchup.

You need to balance up the one off cost of satellite vs the ongoing cost of streaming. You also need to consider availability (signal) of each option.
We've got a Snipe 2 (2nd user) on the motorhome and it works effectively for us.
Mobile signal in North \ West Scotland can be variable whereas satellite is, usually, OK.

Aldi, where knocking out Sat Systems in Case at one time. Not seen them for a while. Bit of a faff to set up but for very occasional use?, something similar might suit. I had one for the caravan, could still be kicking about somewhere?. Otherwise consider "streaming". I watched Sat T-V in Spain. before they reallocated the Satellites, (Pre 2000) Using a sky dish rescued from a skip, and a S-H Sky box from E-Bay.(y) After they moved the Astra (1?) North. 4 Of us shared a 5ft dish!.

As has already been said , we use an Amazon Firestick , recently visited wales where there was no tv signal , but used the firestick and watched tv, it seems a lot of others on this forum are doing likewise. Hope this helps

Hi, I have just installed a maxview roam ( easy self fit), paid for a SMARTY SIM (£20per month for unlimited data) on a rolling contract (cancel anytime). Bought a firestick followed the instructions to use BBC, Itv, C4, Netflix etc. Also bought a Mission USB Power Cable for Amazon Fire TV 4K which uses the TV USB port for power.
The result is excellent TV, can watch live TV and catch up etc. Kids can even watch TV on the move, almost removes the need for terrestrial or satellite TV.

That is the way it is Going, IMV. Until of course the day it all goes "pear shaped". Still, I do have my Old Hallicrafter SW Radio, somewhere in the loft?

We had a Snipe 2 on our previous ‘van, but haven’t bothered on the new one - not cheap (£600+), and, for the use it got, not worth it IMO. As a standby, I’ve bought a small Sky dish and LNB (£30 ish) which fits on a small tripod (repurposed from photography!) and a Manhattan sat receiver (£45 Argos) as our tv does not have a built-in sat. tuner. Takes about 5 mins to set-up the dish if required. Mostly we rely on an Amazon FireStick........(y)

Hi I posted earlier recommending firestick and find the 3G/4G reception more stable and better quality in the UK. I als have an Oyster V dual lnb system , If you venture further abroad E.G Coatia the satellite system comes into its own

if you want a simple and relatively cheap sat system for UK or Northern France then buy a 60cm dish off flebay with an lnb and a tripod.
then get a simple compass and a sat meter with a swing needle meter easier to use than the Bleeper ones.

i been doing this for years and with practice you can be up and on Satellite in no time. also more flexible and considerably cheaper than anything fixed to the van

i mostly use Streaming from Tintenterweb now but depends where we are going as mobile signal is not always available in some areas we want to be.
but with a sat as long as you can se the South eastern sky your on.

I bought a cheap £35 if I remember dish lnb and cable kit from amazon.
I used to use a cheap camera tripod but know just clamp the dish to the bike rack or the front tow hitch.
I use an iOS app called dish align to point the dish, setup 5 mins tops easy.
Our avtex tv has built in sat and free view tuner, although I’m eyeing up the fire stick when Black Friday comes to amazon next week.

Maxview Roam fitted last week and used for the first time at Bowness this weekend . Brilliant piece of kit , well satisfied . Used NowTV stick for the cricket , also have a Firestick for Amazon Prime . I do have a self seeking sat system as well but I think that techs days are numbered tbh .
