We have an Oyster V and was wondering if we should be able to watch most TV in France and Spain.

I usually pick up Astra 2. I also have an IceCrypt decoder.

I can get 112 Sky News and other news channels but not the usual Beeb/ITV channels in south France.

Do I need to tune into another satellite??

Thanks.

astra 2 is fine but dependent on where you are exactly will determine the size of dish you need. a 90cm dish is likely to be ok if you have good line of sight.

The bbc made Astra move the footprint north because there were millions of none licence payers watching the bbc channels. Hence you can’t pick it up. Your icecript box will pick up the satellite beeping down to Gibralter when you get further south.

Okay! Thanks all for the info. I can receive peripheral channels and IceCrypt isn’t picking anything up as far as I can see.

Thanks again for your help.

Not sure about the dish. 80cm I think. And we are next door to Andorra.

I have access to a Firestick, although I’ll chew through the data PDQ I’m sure.

i have used a 90cm down as far as Beziers, you are probaly going to need a 1.2 m plus dish where you are.

try reducing the video quality in settings on the stick as they are generally set on the highest setting.

We have an Oyster 85cm dish with an Icecrpyt. We have found astra2 very patchy in south of France but have no problem getting main channels on the Intelsat satellite through Icecrypt.

We have an 85cm Auto Skew Oyster and IceCrypt supplied and fitted by Jackson’s. When we were in France a few weeks ago we couldn’t pick any signals from Intelsat 901. I’ve read that there have some changes to @01, but I should have been able to pick up signals. Any comments or suggestions?

Currently in Brittany watching TV on Astra2 (Oyster 85 and Icecryt box) saw this thread so tried changing to Intelsat 901 with no problems - all expected channels worked fine.

Intelsat 901 was working just dandy whilst we were in Spain last month, BBC 1,2,3,4 +Itv channel 4,5 and the same BBC radio channels all booming in on a 85cm dish feeding the Icecrypt. If you want Sky News, CNN etc then you need to put the dish on 19 or 28 East.
Can you still get an icecrypt box?
No they stopped doing them years ago but from memory Pulsat sell one you can put the codes in but not tried it myself. A few Icecrypt units pop up on eBay now and then, cracking little receivers and perfect for van life.

I901 is still working as it should - the "satback" service is still being used the help coverage in the north of england after the the bilsdale transmitter fire back in 2021.
No changes have happened at all.
The frequency and biss codes for others to hack into the private feeds have not changed for years now.
Only a satellite replacement a few years ago, but it was a straight swap needing no "user intervention".

When did you last get a good reception from Astra2 ?
Are you OK with adjusting the Skew on your LNB....if so, adjust it to about 20 to the hour instead of your normal 30 minutes past..this may help...or there again may not...give it a try....

Its a snipe 2 so, unless there is a manual mode not a chance, as for last time maybe mid France was the last time ? What I was thinking of was maybe astra 1 or hotbird or something ?

Yes that option remains a possibility for limited English speaking channels...

I don't suppose I will find out on this trip as I have battery charger issues and as nicely warm I'm hiding under trees 😉

You should be able to get Astra 2 in Bergerac, unless it is hidden from view on your pitch location. I think there was an update recently, don’t know if that may be the issue though.

We are near St Tropez now and just updated the monthly EE data on the mobile phone to unlimited for £10 so we can use the firestick, linked to the phones network with no issues!
