Hello and welcome.

I use CoPilot. Have a look on eBay for Truck Sat Nav.

Any satnav, with this facility, will only avoid roads that have a statutory restriction which is clearly signed on approach, however, there are thousands of miles of country roads with no restriction but are tight as hell and these will be planned on any route you may use. The first and last mile is usually the worst.

I find the dedicated avtex I have takes us miles off route unnecessarily so I use a tomtom in conjunction with it , I find a standard satnav gives me the best route overall

now solar that is well worth having

A satnav is only really required for the last ten miles or so and, if you know your destination, you can evaluate the approach from the main road network by zooming in on GoogleEarth

Hi Scotch mist which one do you have as I have the tourer 2 and find it quite good, it has only had a couple of small hiccups in the last 12 months.

Hi POH , it’s a avtex tourer one plus ,we have a 5t MoHo,used mostly in france , it would divert around 3.5t roads & towns ( sometimes adding 20miles or more ) , the towns would be no commercial vehicles over 3.5t so wouldn’t apply to us , the roads have had signs saying over vehicles 3.5t restricted to 40kph (steep gradient) so again quite legal for us to use , nearly always uses larger roads although the smaller roads are more than adequate to use

Obviously if you’re abroad or going somewhere different you won’t just have your SatNav in use for ‘the last ten miles or so’! Apart from road guidance most of us use SatNav’s for constant eta reminders and traffic avoidance if doable. I’ve tried m’home specific SatNavs and find them a bit of a faff, preferring the simple interface of Google Maps. As ‘cyberyacht’ suggests however a bit of research on the last few miles access to site is time well spent so as to avoid nasty surprises.

That’s why I have a French vehicle profile in my Avtex Tourer one (Garmin770) with weight set at 3499kg and no tolls.
