I am the least mechanically minded person possible, so please forgive me....

As the MoHo was up on the levellers, I took the opportunity to look underneath. What I found concerns me!

If you look at the pics, there is so much rust. Is this normal on a 1 year old Ducato? Okay, maybe its 2 years old by the time the converter worked on it.

Seems bad to me, but welcome your expert attention.....

Thanks
BigDean.

That doesn't good look good does it. Makes me now want to check under ours. Have you checked the VIN number to see when it was manufactured?

A couple of bits like the exhaust manifold doesn't matter. But for the shields and control arms to be pitting up already isn't good. And all the fasteners have already gone through their galv coating. It's not just a few bits, it's everything! It's like it's been acid dipped!

So, time to book in with Fiat?

Please do let me know what yours is like. Thanks.

Who did you buy it from? Did they happen to be impacted by flooding? There was a fair bit of that around in 2018.

Have you per chance had a nice long drive up a beach?

BC Motorhomes in Ayr. Not made aware of any issues, but they wouldn't have had it in 2018 I shouldn't imagine. It would have been in Slovenia then!

Nope, not had a chance. Been on the driveway most of the year since delivery.....

did it come with manufacturers vehicle guarantee ....? if so, i would be taking in to an approved dealership/garage to have it looked at

it might just be all surface rust and not going to be an issue, but i would def try to get it checked out

Absolutely, we bought it brand new last June.

Just spoken to Fiat Commercial dealer and they are going to look at the photos. Will update.

Looks like it's been stored since new and subjected to salt air corrosion in an external storage yard close to the coast! ( or up north)
Aluminium Castings corrode very quickly in these conditions. Ours had been stored 9 months before being picked up but was not as bad as yours and I immediately got out the Waxoyl and sprayed everywhere which I do with all my cars. So many people neglect this at their peril! Even new BMWs can suffer like this!

Has it got a 2 year warranty, or 3 year warranty?

Normally depends on whether a UK conversion (3 year), or continental conversion (usually 2 years).

Even if 2-year, still worth getting Fiat dealer to talk to Fiat.

Good luck! (y)

Edited to add - just seen you bought it new last year - so should be fine on the validity of the warranty.

Warranty clock starts at point of original registration.

Is it too late to do this? Should I be concerned / starting to discuss replacement with Fiat?

Cant believe it should be down to me to protect a new vehicle!

2 year as continental. Waiting for Fiat dealer to come back to me. They have the photos.....

that has been wet for a prolonged time.
likely sat in a yard awaiting conversion, but it needs addressing before it deteriorates further

Looks worrying. A question re Waxoyl: can it be sprayed onto surfaces which, like this, are already corroding, or will this just lock the problem up behind a layer of gunk which then permits the oxidation to eat away at the metal unseen?

See my edited post above. Warranty starts on date of registration, not date of manufacture. So OK on that score. (y)

Is it possible that was sat in water for a period of time ? Flooding maybe ? That can’t possibly be normal for such a new van , or can it ?
Get it back to the dealer ASAP .

Warranty is for failure of parts and loss of functionality. Until it starts to starts to break, will a warranty cover it?

Maybe not questions for yourself BigDean but for the gang.
Did BC not go bust mid 2019? If so, would the phoenix company be covering the warranty or will OP have to seek support directly from FIAT?

That’s salt corrosion. Very common. Do you have the plastics, undertray fitted? Needs protection from road salt. In the first picture looks like the engine block cast gets some water. How is your scuttle draining? Internal gutter drain blockage?

I’m pretty sure the warranty is for perforation corrosion not surface rust and they are unlikely to deal with it unless a goodwill gesture from a dealer. Fiat anticorrosion inspections are normally every two years so it is likely to be dealt with then but unlikely under a guarantee under the terms as mentioned above.

They were in business in 2020 when I bought it (y)

Front end is Fiats responsibility, back end Adria.

BC Motorhomes are less than one mile from the sea.
I wonder how long it was in stock?

Unknown, but surely there is a duty of care from any manufacturer to ensure their dealers are suitable?

It is how it came. I would expect to have to add protection from the British weather. Sorry don't know what scuttle draining is, or the internal gutter drain.
