Is there a simple way of doing this? (leaving the battery power situation aside for the mo) I know it will run off when the engines running (presumably off the alternator/engine battery?) and it involves the D+ signal but there my technical knowledge ends.

Thetford N4000 series fridge (N4142 model)

Three way fridges eat about 20amps in 12v mode. So for most people, it's not practical.

I believe Voltronic solar chargers have a special output to drive a fridge when the battery is charged and there's enough spare power.

As I said - power situation aside. I have 3 leisure batteries and solar. This is a short term temporary measure which would be monitored carefully. Just wondering if there is an easy way to divert 12 volt power with no additional purchases.

If you have a Schaudt Electroblock EBL some models can be set up to do this for short periods when required . If you say which model number EBL you have someone may be able to advise if this can be done in your case.

Just wire the 12v element to the batteries direct via a fuse and 20 amp switch 👍

EBL 119

I think you may find that , If there is not one there already fitted , if you put a 20 amp fuse in the fuse socket marked Kompr/AES Kuhlschrank at the left side of the battery cut off switch on the EBL119 this may allow the fridge to work on 12v from the leisure battery.

Fully aware (unfortunately) of op s issue and mine goes in tomorrow to see if there is a quick cure.

This is the set up from 12 volt via Inverter and the extension we will be using to work the fridge. We will be turning it on for an hour or so every 8 hours or so and keeping ice blocks in freezer (unless miracles happen with gas supply in the next fortnight)

Just for information we can run our fridge using a Victron 12/2000/80 inverter charger, it takes 21 amps from the batteries providing 240 volts through the inverter or 17 amps if direct on 12 volt

This may or may not work. Look at the 4-way connector, top left on the EBL119 front panel. Pin 1 is the top pin, Pin 4 is the lowest pin. There should only be one of those connected. Is there a wire in Pin 1 or Pin 4?

If it's in Pin 4 then inserting that 20A fuse will allow it to be used from the leisure battery when the engine is not running. When the engine starts, it switches so that it is supplied from the starter battery/alternator, as usual.

If it's in Pin1 then you could move it to Pin 4. You could even splice in another wire and connect it to Pin4 as well as Pin1.

This is a super short term solution (I wouldn't leave it unattended)

Disconnect thick red cable in picture (marked 12v supply), run similar diameter cable from battery positive to this junction, run short link cable from same junction to S+ connector. To turn off disconnect S+.

There should really be a fuse at the battery end, but if needs must...

You would need to go back to original if on the move, or on EHU.

Cheers
Red.

In the picture above remove the white wire from D+. Connect the vacant connector to the next to bottom (+12) connector with a loop of wire.

If you have a Hymer, just set the AES to 12v and it will run from the leisure battery regardless of whether the engine is running.

Thanks for suggestions. Just arrived at the campsite for Le Mans 24 hour race and found a few EHU sockets on a lampost. So we set up camp very near one and cheekily plugged in. Sorted! Hopefully we will be ok with that for the week which will save me having to butcher anything.

Works on some Hymer/fridge combinations I think. Ours (2016 Exsis +Thetford fridge) doesn’t.

I'm converting our 3 way fridge to a compressor type. Exciting new thread coming soon 🤩

If you can find the cables at the block you could just wire a switch across them
