Ive read all the advise and seen on the York Council website the temporary access road off Butcher Terrace however has anybody been that’s got any hands on practical advise of what to expect , errant pedestrians / cyclists or construction traffic ? Cheers .

I took one look at it, looked on maps and cancelled my precious booking. Went to Bridlington instead

In all fairness i did ask for advice from those that had actually been . 💡
Fair enough, but you asked about the access and I decided that in an A class their diversions were not a good option,

airing an opinion, sorry…….

The temporary access road is far less stressful than the original approach into RP CAMC site in my opinion.
The access road has traffic lights and passing places which both work well.
Make sure you don’t arrive at the site until 1pm or just before though as this causes problems and you maybe turned away.
If in doubt call the site and ask for guidance.

Edit. Google maps will try to take you the old way in. Site warden can give you correct Postcode to take you the new way in. Sorry can’t remember the new postcode

My friend has been without any problem.

The postcode for the diversion I understand from the wardens is
YO23 1LS, Butcher Terrace and then signposted over a temporary road
It concerned me that the postcode they gave was some distance away from the site. Had a look on street view and decided that it was going to be no fun with a tow car. Clearly access is less of an issue than I thought but Bridlington was great anyway. M.I.L. Lived in Bishopthorpe for years so very familiar with most of York anyway

We are their now and have been since tuesday

you will not have a problem whatsoever and anyone who thinks they will have missed out

We are 8,8 mtrs and brand new so I wouldn’t have risked anything if I thought their was going to be an issue. The weather today btw had been lovely

Walk out of the back gate and up to the top of the roid, straight across and into the Pig cafe and bloody hell the good is absolutely lovely

Look left and you have a Sainburys, walk towards York about 100 yds and you have passed a fantastic indian restaurant, across the road is the Angel on the Green, just had lovely pizza, garlic bread and the best chunky chips ever, the wine was excellent.

Carry on across the river and you have Wetherspoons and the start of 100’s of bars, bistros, cafes, restaurants, you name it’s there.

Don’t be a boring bugger, go and enjoy it as it’s great

oh! and some of the friendliest wardens we’ve ever come across

Al 👍

I went in january, not a problem in my teeny 7 metre coachbuilt, lots of tag axle A class car draggers already there and soon after I arrived a big american rv pulled in.
Diversion signs were clear and I'd never been to york before 👍

We’ve been twice recently without any problems. Providing you don’t take one of the earlier roads which are dead ends you will be fine. The only complaint I have is that the road isn’t signposted.

Did you have an aperitif.

We had a booking recently, almost got there, got an email to say booking cancelled! flooding. Ended up at the other site. Looked like when we went into town, that the flood risk was for the one night. Had seen worse flooding in past and still got on site. The water had been lapping at the entrance on previous visits. Maybe the work fir flood defences create a problem of access at lower flood levels. There were vans in situ the following day. Miffed was an understatement.

We were there at Christmas- the temporary access road is fine. Well was for me in my PVC. But there was some RV’s on site and they managed . Yes there are walkers and cyclists on it.
Daniel.

Many thanks to those who have visited the site during the disruption and passed on your real life experiences in the thread . Looking forward to the trip ! Cheers .

Just about to leave so i’ll post if their are any changes, which they’re won’t be, there is also a traffic light system along the riverside road so no hiccups on that road at all

Go and enjoy, it’s lovely 👍

Been several times in an A Class and absolutely no problem. 👍
