We're about to set off from York for our first trip to Ireland. We are going from Fishguard to Rosslare. I'd thought of getting to Fishguard by going M1>M42>M5>M4 to South Wales etc. However, the AA route planner has us going via Chester, Wrexham etc.

I'd welcome any suggestions as to the best route bearing in mind that we intend to spend a night somewhere in Wales rather than trying to do it all in one day.

Many thanks.

regularly do tenby to sheffield and back coming back m1 a42 m42 m5 m50 down through ross and monmouth to newport or across from monmouth to neath loads of laybys for stop over from newport or neath m4 happy travels

Thanks for the replies. Am looking at map to see proximity of Newport etc to Fishguard.

Newport is about a couple of hours from Fishguard we are roughly halfway between the two

google maps on a phone uses current data to give you the best route allows for known holds or accidents

Beware that there are two Newports in Wales - One is picturesque and near Fishguard, the other isn’t.
