Advice required for best route planner UK to Spain via France including stop over sites , many thanks .

Bordeaux has a site north of the city with cycle or bus access then Carcasonne, both cities worth visiting. In Spain just research "Spain & World Heritage sites".We have never been disappointed

Try About France. Com shows driving pros and cons through France to Spain , tolls no tolls or a mixture of both
Does not give campsites etc

I do quite a lot of research beforehand on various apps already mentioned and then use Wildertrips to plan the route populating it with stops and sites that I have found on those apps. When the trip is completed I then add pictures to each location......I have plenty of time on my hands!

Having asked for advice on this forum, I found ViaMichelin very useful for route and cost planning on my initial run down to Spain. I’m heading off on the 1st March for 3 months but want to get to Spain in 3 or 4 days. My initial target in Spain is Valencia / Murcia but only because it appears to be the warmest area at that time of the year. I’ve used Park4Night for the first two stops (Belleme & Limoges) then ACSI for the third (Narbonne). After that we will probably head down to Valencia and then to Murcia.
We use the Lonely Planet guides for both France & Spain. We like to stay in less crowded places, away from cities so we also use Take the Slow Road Spain & Portugal and Wild Guide to Andalusia. I’ve attached a sample output from ViaMichelin for the initial trip down to Perpignan.

If you're doing the western route try to include a stop near Bordeaux, such as Cavignac heading south or Pissos heading north on Friday or Saturday night to avoid any hold ups. Also few if any lorries on Saturday or Sunday 👍

Use it in your internet explorer or Safari etc. sign in and you can put in your van details to get a correct price. You will pay more than a car if your van is over 2m high. Fiat Ducato’s give you a choice, if yours is 3500kg, you need to pick Ducato3500 in the drop down. Not the 3500 with max or maxi afterwards. Once you sign in you can save routes.

I’d suggest you need to choose your approach to travelling first

Are you a run 24 hours a day by swapping drivers en route or happy to do 8 hours a day or 4 / 2 hours etc with sight seeing?
For overnight stops do you want bookable locations or happy to search once you get to an area? Campsite or side of the road / lay-by etc? Easy route on toll roads, cheaper non toll main roads or more picturesque route through local towns.

None of the above is the “correct” answer, it’s a case of what suits you and your passengers, pets (and budget).

Once you’ve chosen that then you can use an atlas to estimate stopping areas, route planners to get durations and websites listing your type of parking spots.

Just pointing the van south is certainly one way of doing if you can accept unpredictable driving durations and quality of park up!

This is a route I did, I use search for sites to find places to stay, I had a look at D Day beaches and museums on the way down and visited the Il de Rei for some quality seafood as well, there is also Puy du Fou near this route, which is very worth a visit and there is an aire you can stay on as well.

I use a combination of Park4night and Wildertrips for mine (just planned Santander up to Caen for May/ June). I like the wildertrips because it gives me mileage and driving times between spots so i don't drive more than i want to.
I also discovered Polarsteps which doesn't offer much for planning but you can buy a nice road trip book with glossy photos after your trip.

I used Polarsteps last year as you say not for planning but a record to look back at the stops i used , and haven't bothered getting a road trip book .
