Has anyone used the leg brackets supplied with roof awnings to hold up their awning on a panel van conversion? Or are they only used on coach built MHs
Thanks

On the recommendation of a well respected motorhome mechanic I fixed the support brackets to the trim panels with self tappers only.

This is not the manufacturers recommended method which uses internal strengtheners but I have had no problems in 3 years.

The awning is not left out in high winds or very gusty conditions but would not do so whatever the fixing method.

Ours had the little bag and they are still in the bag, you can use the awning without having to put screws in to the PVC

We have them on our PVC and find them very useful at times. They were fitted from new and look as if they are bolted on with countersunk screws but I don't see why you couldn't use suitably sized self-tappers. :)

Attached mine to my pvc bodywork with sikaflex and self tappers 👍 I wanted the legs out of the way incase the dog got wrapped round the legs and damaged them...

Great to get some feedback on this , I realise the awning can be used without the brackets but they would seem to be much more convenient than pegging down , especially on one nighters or during hot sunny periods.

I must state that mine are screwed to the trim panels only, not through the bodywork and no sikaflex
The worst that could happen is to pull the trim panels off which are replaceable.

I plan on fixing mine now , possibly strengthening things if feasible, and always using guy ropes .
Thanks

Same as kennygray - mine are at different heights on my PVC as the fitter wanted them to go onto metal rather than the black trim - not a problem as leg lengths adjusted to make the canopy levelish! Hole drilled and supplied screw and sikaflex used.
Stops the dog getting wrapped round the legs - I just have to remember to duck when entering from the side!!!

Would get a storm strap kit of some decription for it, i had a caravan awning flip on to the roof a few years ago in France with the wind..Lesson learned...

Photos much appreciated, was going to ask if anyone had some.
We do have a tie down kit , learned over the years that the wind usually picks up the moment you leave the van or go to bed ::bigsmile:
