I only had 7s of knowledge of Roku. They were the supplier of the white Sky Now TV hardware device.
I'd expect it to work abroad but I have no confirmation. Soz

The Roku will be open platform - so an app shop would be wide open and not filtered like Amazon.
I personally do not miss apps that aren't on Amazon but ymmv

Performance wise, Amazon's Firestick range either got refreshed (e.g. CPU / RAM boost) in summer 2020 or is new this year.
But I don't have info on how Roku will perform.

Manic mentioned some Roku app licensing concerns with YouTube so that would put me off.
